OK...WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T WE GONE METRIC?????
Oh, only THE REST OF THE FUCKING WORLD is metric except us. No, we gotta be fucking different.

Carter was going to have us go metric by 1980, but Saint MUTHERFUCKER REAGAN put a stop to that.

Really, what's so bad about metric???

5. Of course the "American Way" isn't even the American Way
It is the English system, used by England until they went metric.

6. I can't find it in me to care about this.
The scientific community has already made (years ago) the transition to metric measurements. The lay-community (read: most other folks) prefer to think in terms of pounds, gallons, and miles. I don't see any real disconnect in embracing both systems. Hell, Britain still uses many non-metric measurements, and I don't see anybody bitching about that.

Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 09:55 PM by mike_c
...but still have to deal with the other stuff at the grocery store, etc. It's not a problem really-- I can switch between SI units and US units pretty easily. Except for temperature. After all these years I still THINK in Fahrenheit.

and have no trouble with them. But the centimetric equivalent of six-foot-three? I have trouble envisioning that height.

13. What you said. I can think in metric for some things, pounds, etc for other things, and
typographical measurements (points and picas) for others, and jeweler's terminology (Carats, pennyweights) for yet another.

Not a problem.

31. Awww, thanks for asking Redstone.
Holidays were great, exhausting and all-consuming, but great. The kids JUST went back to school today, in fact. They'd been off since 12/22. We had a solid 2 1/2 weeks of houseguests and visiting family, during which time I was Hostess Extraordinaire, cooking and baking and basically making sure everyone's needs were met and everything stayed tidy. On top of all that, after they all left, I worked through 12 loads of laundry over the course of two days. Whew!! Then I just vegged out and stared blankly at the wall for the rest of the week. LOL.

I also majorly over-indulged during the holidays, but sure had fun doing it. :D Lemme just say, I make some awesome homemade pies!! Now it's time to get back on track...

Happy New Year to you, my friend! I hope you and the family are well. :hi:

26. No. We are the Righteous. After all, did God give Noah the Ark sizes in centimeters?
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 10:26 PM by Redstone
No, he gave those dimensions in CUBITS, and if cubits are good enough for God, they're good enough for me.

So there.

And, by the way, my car gets 75 cubits per dram of gasoline, which I think is pretty good.

Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 10:07 PM by Redstone
Freedometers; millifreedometers...kilofreedometers;

Freedoliters, millifreedoliters...

And so on.

21. There are certain benefits to using our current system
Both distances and weights more easily divide into quarters and eighths (useful when you want to divide a quantity, then divide again, then divide again: material situations, for instance).
