Windows Vista is a Poor System

I know someone who works with computer programmers and the programmers at that person company told them that Windows Vista is going to be a bad program. The programmers said that they cannot make a public statement in that the company they work with has a contract with Microsoft. So for anyone who was thinking about going out and buying Vista when it comes out you may want to wait or try to find some other type of alternative.

2. Linux

I use Linux at home, and it seems to be just about ready for the masses. Ubuntu makes it easier than ever to install software, and it's pretty easy to transition into Linux from Windows these days.

Not perfect, and not as easy as Windows, but much more stable and secure... and FREE!

And Linux should be tried before dumping the $1200 PC to get a comparable Mac that costs $2000 or more.

Both contain or have available forms of Windows emulation, but Linux costs less and both platforms come from Intel-based hardware and a open source free operating system anyway.

9. I've use suse linux at home for the past five years

and had no problems, no viruses, no trojans and no bill gates. Now with the latest version of crossover you can use nearly every "gotta have" windows based programs out there. But then there are good alternatives. Gimp replaces photoshop, open office replaces microshaft office, etc. Screw Vista.

14. Same here. I can't wait for Crossover Office 6 to come out...

My apps MIGHT work at that point (previous versions of my 3D rendering apps are said to run fine under v5... but those I don't have.)

If not, I can use VMplayer (or the full VMware) with my XP license. It'd be slower (yuck), but it'd work... though XP natively runs incredibly fast, much to my surprise... hence my desire for Crossover Office (a plug-in to WINE that improves compatibility too) is understandable...

7. I currently own Vista. I haven't seen any real improvements or anything from XP though.

The standard interface graphics feel very apple-like to me. It has a lot of preinstalled security shit that I had to turn off, but after that, it ended up not really being any better or worse than XP.

...and although I don't think it particularly sucks, there's no reason to move from Ubuntu Linux just for Vista.

23. A frien of mine has had one now for a few months.

It runs Windows XP faster than any pc I've ever run Windopes on! It's really quiet too. IM SO SICK OF FAN NOISE!

13. I've played with Beta 2 and Release Candidate 2. I will not buy it.

It's "Linux on Big Macs" given its asinine hoggy system requirements. (MS recommends 1GB which means anybody will want 2GB minimum...)

As for Microsoft and contracts with them, anyone who works with them will be shafted in the end because of the contract. When Microsoft does something, they eke out every possible benefit and will hammer you to death with it. It's not cooperation with them, it's voluntary slavery.

...and see no reason to "upgrade." Neither XP nor Vista have tempted me.

My home computer still dual-boots into SuSE Linux, but I haven't actually booted Linux in quite a while.

Any students who walk in the door with Vista on their laptops are SOL...IT won't touch it.
