A longtime Tucson attorney, Kimberley A. Taylor, died of complications from cosmetic surgery during the weekend.
Although the exact cause of death remains unknown, Taylor, 53, apparently underwent a face-lift and tummy tuck on Dec. 28, and complications occurred. She was placed on life support at Tucson Medical Center and died on Saturday, according to the county medical examiner and several of Taylor's colleagues.
"We understand she suffered some sort of respiratory or cardiac arrest during the surgery," said Dr. Eric Peters, Pima County's deputy chief medical examiner.
Taylor's death was reported to the medical examiner, as are all unexpected deaths during surgery, but the office declined to do the autopsy, Peters said.
"From my understanding, there was not a question of inadequate medical care involved in this tragedy. It looks to be just a very unfortunate outcome," Peters said.
"Anytime anyone goes under anesthesia for an extended amount of time, there is a potential for a bad outcome, including death," he said. "Such a circumstance is rare, but it is a possibility. We understand the surgery was done by a respected plastic surgeon, and we decided there was no governmental jurisdiction."
