What's the difference between apple SAUCE and apple BUTTER?
So in the ongoing battle of treadmilling, nutrition, and weight control, an item in Google on "Fat Burning Foods" listed citrus fruits, soybeans, and apples-berries-fresh-fruit.

Under apples, it said, "Apples contain a chemical called pectin, which limits the amount of fat your cells can absorb. Once in your system it has a water binding property, absorbing watery substances, and these watery substances in turn bombard the cell and makes it release fat deposits. Add APPLESAUCE (it's loaded with pectin) (and the others listed above) and let the power of pectin pulverize the fat that accumulates in your cells."

O.K., so dutifully, I followed through and got some applesauce. The only thing I associate with applesauce is BABY FOOD. I don't think I have EVER consumed it before. So when I tried it, it tasted like APPLE BUTTER, that brown puree that my grandmother used to eat.

I won't be lazy, and will do some Googling (or is THAT lazy?), but DUers have insight about EVERYTHING, so am throwing it out here.

1. Apple butter is cooked and reduced applesauce that has sugar and spices added
And usually ends up pureed so that it is smoother than the applesauce.

5. We ate apple butter on UNtoasted bread, with butter (of the moo kind)
When I've tried it recently, after MANY DECADES, it wasn't so spectacular as it tasted back then, but then, nothing does anymore.

10. Add some more cinnamon to it
Which also helps you metabolize the carbs in the bread better. Recent finding about cinnamon.

MMMMM cinnamon.

9. What? You don't eat the toast?
Actually, the best is apple butter with cottage cheese.

6. Nowadays there are all kinds of spiced applesauces.
Maybe you got one of those. You might try getting a recipe and making your own applesauce, but instead of pureeing it, just mash with a potato masher and leave it quite chunky. Might be more palatable.
