Oklahomans check in! Tornadoes all over...
You guys check in and let us know you're ok!!
I'm fine. A little worried about a possible flood in Kingfisher where my mom lives, but we're good otherwise.
Everyone else?

2. I'm sure my nephew's out in it - chasing
he was in the Texas panhandle for the tornadoes yesterday. Saw two.

I know he loves this, but it makes the family very nervous. :(

3. We go spotting
for the National Weather Service when we can as a community service to the area. We keep in contact with the office via our ham radios. As long as we are in contact with them, we know where to be and where not to be, and feel pretty safe because we know what we're looking at.

4. That's the difference - no contact with authorities unless they spot one
He never chases solo and is in touch with other teams but beyond that, it's like Twister. 60 miles an hour down dirt roads. Computers, maps, ham radio and video camera.

Honestly, I'd give anything to go with him. :)

5. Spotters are
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 06:20 PM by hippywife
supposed to be selective on the info they call in so they aren't tying up the airwaves. Not supposed to report unless you see serious rotation, hail above penny size, noticeable lowering, etc.

More lightning rolling in. Gotta unplug again. Later!

8. We were practically in the middle of it at my office--
we're about mile from where it passed by Mercy. I was looking at online weather at the time and all I saw was a flood warning until Saturday, and suddenly the lights flickered a couple of times and then the sirens went off. Of course, we're not allowed to access streaming video or audio on our computers, so I had to run into the conference room and figure out how to turn on the cable box. Luckily it was enough west of us that all we got were really dark skies and a lot of rain. It was pretty scary, though. People were freaking out all over.

Did you see the video of those two vehicles that ran off the road and ended up in a ditch off the turnpike, I think? Scary, scary stuff. I hate driving when it's
tornado-ey--you never know what's gonna happen.

Lake Hefner looks to be a little more full today--that's a good thing, I guess.

10. We took cover...
Because the sirens were going off and Gary England told us to. So we were watching it on the tellie. They called all clear, and we went home. Be safe this evening!
Glad you're ok!!

14. I didn't have time to take cover--I was trying to figure out what was going on,
but I found everyone from the first floor huddled in the stairwell. I felt bad for them because I couldn't get word to them fast enough. But once they got the all clear sign, they all went home. I wouldn't have wanted to drive in that storm. Just a few minutes more and it began to clear.

Glad you're okay, too!
