16. Good shot.
It's kind of weird, but I love fish piers. I like to watch fishing boats come in to a fish pier with tons of birds following. I enjoy seeing the fish unloaded and the washdown following. Last time I visited Cape Cod, I stood on the pier at Chatham and watched the unloading.

Yet I detest eating fish.

Go figure.

25. I like some fish
and it's nice to see local operations fishing and bringing fish to the local chefs and markets who buy them right at the pier. The mega-operations I would imagine are far less 'romantic'

18. Your work is stunning.

This, and the other photos on your hosted site as well. Outstanding color and composition, professional level work, IMO. While I love to see your photos posted here, they are good enough that you really should get them registered with the Library of Congress Copyright Office. If you haven't already. It's relatively cheap and you can register an entire collection at a time.

29. Yep, that's the one.

I looked through it a while ago. I see you've added a few new things. All very well done.

Seriously, you should get your works registered. (Impressive) artistic merit aside, many are good enough to be professionally listed stock photos. And given the opportunity, unscrupulous types will lift your work in a heartbeat.

33. great work!!!
I love the b&w pix - all of them.

and the rusted paint at the end, and the hummingbird and wasp - it's true, you have an eye.

I don't have a tripod that fits my little digital and it drives me crazy because it takes so long for the shutter to work. I try the old, hold your breath and put your elbows against your chest but I still get too many shaky shots.

34. FWIW, my best photo instructor taught us

that to add stability for hand held shots, one should exhale deeply, hold for one second and then shoot. He also told us to become our own tripod, i.e., have at last three contact points touching a stable surface. IOW, kneeling with one knee on the ground and bracing an elbow on the knee that's up, or leaning against a wall or a tree or a car or whatever is available, whenever possible.

Good luck.

the Nikon lens mount? I've heard good things about them.

41. You bought a 5D? Good on yer, and I hope you're enjoying it. What, am I nuts? I KNOW
you're enjoying that Full Frame Freedom, especially with wide-angle lenses.

May you continue that enjoyment, and of course move on to the next best & newest as you can afford to.

You know, the only problem with the pace of advancement in the digital cameras versus film cameras, is that the New Product Lust get triggered so much more frequently than it used to be...

42. Thanks, you know I've been lusting it after it for a long time
I know they're dumping them as fast as possible to make room for its successor coming the end of next month, but it's a damn fine camera now and will be then as well. And besides, what if I miss 'the' shot just because I'm waiting for something new?

And yes, the wide angles are a dream now, I feel like I can see behind me sometimes!

43. Yes, buying just before the "next big thing" comes out has been a great strategy
for me when buying Macs over the last 25 years.

Deciding what you really want, and grabbign it when it hits your price point, is definitely THE way to go these days.

For me? Given the fact that I have ADD and have had those four concussions, I think the safest thing for me to do is to wait until Canon comes up with a more rational model-naming scheme before I trade up. Their lineup can be AWFULLY confusing.

Your general impression of the camera seems positive. Any nits you'd want to pick with it, or should I put it on my 2008 buy list without any reservations?

It could use some better weather sealing like the 1D (pro) line, so the rubber seals on my better lenses match up to the body and are just about watertight, but I don't plan on taking it out in extreme weather. Love the big viewfinder, huge step up from the consumer DSLRs like the Digital Rebels. The high-iso performance is a knock-out compared to the 10D, where I wouldn't even go beyond 200 unless it was an 'emergency', I'll be up in 1250 and the shots are almost as good as 400 with this body.

Definitely a good camera if you're doing road trips. I'm looking forward to some of my old routes with FF so I can really get the photo I've been wanting

oh, and an easy way to get nikon and canon naming schemes is typically the lower the number, the better the camera
