Anybody want some sugar cookies, I am making many tonight along with some ginger cookies.
Get them while they are hot, I only make homemade cookies on the holidays.

2. I just bake them, others will decorate them.
My sugar cookies are very good, made the same way my Greatmother made them.

I made the dough this morning and had to guard it all day, certain people would have eaten all dough.

3. I Love making Sugar Cookies & Gingerbread, Ginger Crinkles as well
I love trying different recipes.

Would love to try your Greatmother's recipe. If you feel inclined to divulge the recipe then I would definitely would make a batch.

I have an excellent recipe for Gingerbread, that I got from Adam Marks Hotel in Dallas. They are really easy to make and are extremely puffy cookies. If your interested in the recipe just let me know. The Ginger Crinkles are actually called Ginger Snaps in my cookbook, however, they do not snap at all. So, I decided to rename them Ginger Crinkles.

Now you have got me in the mood for cookies. This year I wasn't really in the mood to do much of the baking and cooking I normally do, so maybe I'm having a delayed reaction.

4. The recipe is like some of this and some of that.
I need to write it out.

The recipe is really good.

Country women just threw things in a bowl.

I will be happy to share the receipe, I just need to work it out.

You wouldn't believe my Grandmother's receipe cards.

I know what you mean about throw things in a bowl. I come from a country background myself. I grew up on a suburban farm. We had 12 acres and had cows, chickens, pigs, horses, copperheads, dogs, and a huge vegetable garden.

I grew up as the cook and baker. I LOVE making everything from scratch. I never buy boxed mixes. Although I haven't mastered pie dough.

Just discovered a very simple fudge recipe, I always screwed up whenever I tried in the past, and chocolate is way to expensive to waste on a disaster.

I got my first Kitchen Aide stand-mixer for the sole purpose of making Divinity, (handheld mixer was just not working out, even tho it was giving me a workout):rofl: Best investment I've ever made in mixers. My Divinity improved dramatically.

Just let me know when you get finished writing down the recipe. No big rush, or anything. Whenever you get time, and as soon as I get it I'm a gonna be making me some of them there Sugar Cookies.:pals:

6. Here is the basic receipe for sugar cookies.


1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 1/4 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract

add if you want 2 tbsp. milk

I also add nutmeg to taste.

I just douple or triple the above.

The cookies should remain soft after cooking.

I'll give these a try later tonight. What should the temp be and for how long. Usually the temp is around 350 for 8 to 10 minutes.

I will have to substitute butter for the shortening, and that this will affect the recipe a little bit, but I stopped using shortening a long time ago and only use butter.


Here's the Gingerbread recipe:

Preheat oven to 350º Bake cookies about 10 minutes

4 cups of unbleached all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoons grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup unsalted butter
2/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
2 large eggs
2/3 cup unsulfured molasses

Mix dry ingredients together. Beat the butter and sugar, adding one egg at a time. Continue beating until the mixture is smooth.
Beat in the molasses. Scrap down the bowl often. Beat in flour mixture until just combined.

Divide dough into several pieces and make rectangular shape, about a 1/4" thickness.
Chill dough for about an hour. Roll out, Cut out, Bake and Frost, let cool on pan, or start munching right away. I usually prefer this method.
