Baby Born At McDonald's (woman didn't know she was pregnant)
http://www.koin.com/Global/story.asp?S=7555585

VANCOUVER, Wash. - A baby was born in a McDonald's restroom in Vancouver, and the mother didn't even know she was pregnant.

It was evening shift last Friday at the fast-food restaurant at State Route 500 and Gher Road when employee Danille Miller suddenly felt ill and ran for the bathroom. Her 16-year-old co-worker, Jaynae Herrera, followed.

"I was like are you pregnant?" Herrera asked. "Because she was in the bathroom, and I'm like, are you pregnant? She says, I don't think so. A couple minutes later, she says the baby is coming out, and that's when I started freaking out."

Herrera, with the assistance of a 911 dispatcher, helped her deliver baby Austin Laddusaw, and both mother and baby are fine.

Miller said, "I was so shocked I couldn't talk. I was shaking the whole time. I didn't stop shaking until three the next morning. My sister stayed the night with me."

2. wow.
That's just, wow.

It amazes me that someone could be that unaware of what was going on with their body.... I mean there's a lot of kicking, and weight gain, and throwing up, and all that happy stuff that happens prior to the birth.

3. I have never been able to understand these stories
how could someone NOT KNOW THEY'RE PREGNANT?

they didn't wonder why they didn't have a period for 9 months, or why their stomach kept growing, or did they think it was gas when the baby kicked? My kids literally moved my preggers belly around. it was like someone playing soccer in my uterus.

7. Me either.
I knew from day 1 when hubby made morning coffee and I threw up at the smell. Of course there were other signs - food tasted like straw. I gained 50 pounds. I had to pee 5 times a night. I could rest a plate of food on my ever expanding belly.

Oh yeah, and people would always ask me "When's your baby due?" That was the clincher.

8. I had a friend who had periods when she was pregnant
Of course, her belly grew and then there was that kicking thing you mentioned.

But her doctor told her it is not uncommon to have periods while pregnant. I know - still makes me :wow:

'Cause yeah, I would think at some point you would be like, "wow, I haven't had my period in a while" and you would start to wonder. :P

because you can't get your arm past your BULGING BELLY, that might be kind of a clue.

Amd that lactating thing might be a hint, too. You're not selectively sweating, hon. It's milk.

19. To be honest, I barely knew with my first
I knew because I missed my period and wasn't in any kind of denial but I felt great, I barely gained any weight until I was more than 7 months along (the day I had her, I was wearing a 32 waist jeans - normally, I wore a 29 - can't fit into either now :( ) and if I'd been one of those people who had irregular periods or who had them during the pregnancy, who knows? I might very well have thought the kicking was gas or something. Especially if I was young and didn't want to know. You know?

35. Same with a friend of mine
She didn't figure it out until she was 8 months along when the braxton hicks got so bad she couldn't stand them. Baby was born two weeks later. Talk about an adjustment.

34. I don't understand it either, but I went to school with a girl
who had a baby and supposedly didn't know she was pregnant. She would have been about 6 months when we graduated and you couldn't tell. She was average weight and height, so it wasn't as if she could hide that much weight gain. Just a couple of weeks before she had the baby she had been trying on bathing suits at the local department store. One night she started having severe stomach pain. Her parents took her to the emergency room and a few hours later she gave birth to a healthy 7 pound baby girl. She swore that she didn't know she was pregnant.

Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 05:31 PM by NewWaveChick1981
 :yoiks: I'm always amazed at that. The one and only time I was ever pregnant, I knew right away. My dog knew I was pregnant immediately too. We confirmed it with a pregnancy test, but both my doggie and I knew. (BTW, I did not go through with that pregnancy, in case any of you were wondering.)

16. First one I knew right off but the second one was a bit of a srurpise and I had
to miss a period or two to catch on.

I suppose if one if large (as I am right now) and the baby grows into the belly space you already have without making you alarmingly larger, and if the kicking just feels like gas, well.. I guess I could see how this might be possible.

17. Extreme denial, I'd say.
We hear these stories every once in a while, and I'd guess in most cases the girls are so far in denial that they really don't "know" they are pregnant. Add in someone who is on an irregular cycle and perhaps hasn't had too much in the way of weight gain, and I can see how it's possible.

25. how can you not know you're pregnant?
Are there actual pregnancies with no symptoms and is there such a thing as a fetus that doesn't kick your ass from the inside out by the seventh month? I can understand not looking pregnant, but not feeling it? Is this truly possible or is this extreme denial?

29. As some have mentioned above, it IS possible.
Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 08:05 PM by BlueIris
Depending on a lot of things—the woman's size, the size of the fetus, whether the fetus is active or not. And there are ways for a placenta to be positioned so that some women feel very little movement during their pregnancies, even if the fetus is active.

Some women continue to bleed monthly through their entire pregnancies. Some people don't feel Braxton-Hicks contractions (or actual contractions). Some women don't gain very much weight, and some have body types that don't "show" the weight gain or abdominal distortion from the growing fetus even if they do put on the normal amount of pregnancy weight.

But I doubt situations like this are all that common, even in cases in which someone is in total, clinical denial.

37. Oprah did show on this about fifteen years ago...
...it was about 'Silent Pregnancies'...women who had absolutely NO CLUE they were knocked up until they went into labor.

IIRC, one woman thought she was suffering from a kidney stone, and nobody could figure out WTF was going on. An OB-GYN nurse working the ER figured out pretty quickly what the problem was...

A fair percentage of these women seemed pretty on the ball, too...they just didn't have the classic preggo symptoms.

Bet there was a run on EPT tests after that show aired...

Mom Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant

Usually, when stories surface that a woman gave birth to a child not knowing she was pregnant in the first place, the child is typically the woman’s first. But for Michelle Rushing, her surprise delivery was her third child. Born on June 12, Keeton Wallace Kennedy was a healthy 7lbs, 10oz when he arrived in Rushing’s bathroom in the middle of the night. Rushing’s fiancée, Gary Kennedy, caught Keeton as he came out and the trio were soon taken to the hospital when the ambulance arrived 10 minutes later. Yet, for Rushing, this dramatic birth came as a huge shock as she had not even been aware that she was pregnant. Although she had gained weight over the last nine months, she assumed it was due to water retention and stress. She did not experience any of the typical pregnancy symptoms she had with her two previous pregnancies or even feel the baby kicking. But on June 12th, as Rushing began having lower back pain, Kennedy called 911 and said that he thought his wife may be miscarrying as he had suspected Rushing was a few months pregnant. Apparently, some friends of the couple shared Kennedy’s suspicions, although they never shared this with Rushing as they didn’t want to offend her. However, Kennedy is thrilled about Keeton. “It’s great, especially having a son,” Kennedy said. “To have a boy to carry your name forward, that’s something I can’t describe.” Source: Johnny Jackson, News-Daily.com
