2. I've stopped watching "South Park."

First, they did an episode in which a Starbucks-type coffeehouse opens in town and threatens to put the small, independently-owned coffee place out of business. Stan's inevitable "I learned something today" speech is a long-winded tirade about why "big corporations are good."

Then, they did an episode that reduced anti-smoking activists to a horrid stereotype--i.e., they're humorless, lying, hypocritical, fun-hating fascists who just want to impose their will on everybody else. The episode also portrays tobacco executives as altruistic purveyors of pleasure who are only too happy to make people aware of the health risks of smoking. And it shows their employees as fun-loving Oompa-Loompa types who dance around the production floor singing the praises of their cigarettes. For good measure, the show also suggested that people smoke by choice and can quit any time they want. Which explains why I've yet to meet a single ex-smoker who didn't go through hell on earth to quit the habit!

So, I now give a big "Fuck you" to Trey Parker and Matt Stone. If they want to use their piss-poor animation as a sounding board for Libertarian selfishness, they can fucking well do it without me as a viewer! :grr: :nuke:

7. Excuse me, but I bash conservatives because...

...they lie and otherwise distort the truth to make themselves look good and their "enemies" look bad. They also reduce "the other side" to vicious, inaccurate stereotypes to purvey hatred and intolerance that sometimes leads to physical attacks against those who are "different." Remember James Byrd? How about Matthew Sheppard?

The mentality I've increasingly come to see represented by "South Park" reminds me of the ignorant, small-minded hicks who made my years in the public school such a living hell because they considered me a "faggot" and a "wimp." I spent the better part of 12 years "taking it" from those cocksuckers, and am not about to spend my adult years doing the same thing. Fuck you if you don't approve.

9. oh ok
Liberals never lie, never distort the truth. They never do anything worthy of being mocked or made fun of.

Ignorant small minded hicks? Are you kidding? Southpark is the single most funiest show on television.

13. vicious stereotypes?
Kinda like how republicans are all racist, homphobic, greedy, and money grubbing?

And yes, I remember Matthew Shepherd, but I'm not gonna judge all republicans by what a few did. But maybe that doesn't make sense to you.

Just yesterday they had an episode that showed environmentalists as mentally unhinged psychopathic killers who are bent on villifying the Republican Party.

Oh, yea. One of the lessons "There is no scientific proof of global warming."

The show is like an animated, slighty-funnier version of Colin Quinns ape-ish shitfest.

Apologies for the whiney post above mine.

8. "South Park" may have been satire at one time...
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 10:20 PM by NightTrain
...but now it's just bullshit. Parker and Stone have gotten rich off that show, and its quality has suffered for it.

From now om, If I want satire, I'll watch "Dr. Strangelove" or "The Daily Show," or I'll re-read "Catch-22." But "South Park" can kiss my ass!

11. what's so bad about it?
What is so horribly wrong with Southpark? It's an absolutely brutal show that will make you laugh and at the same time make you nod your head and say "Hey, they got a damn good point".

15. Dude it's satire
No sacred cows, skewer them all....

Simpsons is left leaning...
Family Guy is left leaning while appearing to be right leaning
Beavis and Butthead was just nihilist
and South Park is true satire. Make fun of everyone.
