Who do you really prefer to listen too?
Clapton or SRV?

Many years ago, I was a big Clapton fan. And then I heard Stevie.

He got jazzy and did many different feels-but he was somewhat typecast as a Texas bluesman--that old Texas rub-shuffle groove which will sound similar to the uninitiated IMHO.

4. wow, this is a rough one

Early Clapton is almost unbeatable... but later Clapton sucks like a Hoover... SRV was consistently great (barring the National Anthem)...

I am gonna have to vote tie. Though, if SRV had lived it'd be him all the way.

10. Cream era Clapton was so good

"Sweet Wine" has one of the most powerful solos I've ever heard, and the John Mayall Bluesbreakers work was good too, all done when he was younger.
I voted for SRV though.

7. I saw SRV in concert 3 times, Clapton twice.

Both were excellent (and one of the SRV shows was the tour with Jeff Beck). But the first time I saw Clapton (in the '70s), I was on a high for several days, without benefit of drugs. His playing affects me more; his guitar can reach deep into my heart and soul. (Of course this only applies to his work from the sixties through Derek & the Dominoes, as well as any of his blues.) I think you know who I voted for. :-)

By the way, is it really fair to compare a dead legend with a live entertainer? Doesn't seem right.

Eric Clapton: I was in my car when I first heard him and I remember thinking "I have to find out before the day is over who that guitar player is". And that doesn't happen to me very often that I get that way about listening to music. I mean I stopped the car, pulled over, listened and thought I've got to find out before the end of the day, not sooner or later, but I have to know now who that is. I remember being fascinated by the fact he never seemed lost in any way. He never took a breather or paused to think where he was going to go next, it just flowed out of him. And that doesn't come with virtuosity or practice, it's not a question of doing it over and over again; he just seemed like an open channel.

There are a lot of musicians here. I know Octafish from hanging out here-not personally. I prefer Wes Montgomery to John McGlaughlin but Zappa certainly does rock. Did you vote for Clapton or SRV?
