SOMEONE made fun of my DC59

I was in the bathroom when my roommate's stupid friend came in. He went over to my guitar case and opened it up. Then he laughed and said he understood bringing a cheap guitar to college, but this was real cheap. As I waited for that jackass to leave, I fumed. But then I thought about this:



Yep. That's Jimmy Page, playing a Danelectro DC59.

And then I remembered this:



In case you can't tell, that's a young Jimmy Hendrix playing a DC59 upside down.

My dad bought me that guitar for $150. It was the first guitar I owned. I earned it, too. I had to lose 10 lbs. for that guitar (back when I was fat). My next was a Seagull acoustic. Then a Gibson SG.

But I brought my Danelectro. Because I love it.

Fuck him. Apparently he's under the impression it has to be expensive to be good. Same kind of dumb shit that pays $1600 for golf clubs and gets his ass beat by me and my $150 clubs I got from Target with my wife's 10% discount 12 years ago. HAHAHAHA

Check out Monte Montgomery sometime. The guy is incredible and his axe is a complete rag. Makes it sound beautiful though.

i had one of those,then i got a doubleneck danelectro.baritone and regular necks,i changed the baritone to 6-string bass,and put a bigsby whammy on the bottom neck.what a blast.i traded the DC59 for a '62 ford falcon.the guy threw in the bigsby AND a set of locking tuner pegs.

5. Its the mojo, man

Some guitars just have good mojo on 'em. My old lady recently gave me an old Ibanez Destroyer II tricked out with three humbuckers and a Floyd Rose bridge ... not quite the standard setup. She paid less than $200 for it. Now I can't put the thing down. I'm not very good, but somehow this guitar makes me sound like a better player than I really am. The point is, you either bond with an axe or ya don't ... and if ya do the price tag doesn't matter. Besides, your axe is classic. Don't listen to the dweeb.

Brian Harold May (born 19 July 1947) became famous as the guitarist of rock group Queen and composed many of Queen's hits: We Will Rock You, Hammer to Fall and Who Wants to Live Forever. He remained an active musician in the 1990s, after Queen had ceased to exist as the result of Freddie Mercury's death. He was born in Hampton, United Kingdom.

He has played a range of guitars, most often the Red Special, which he designed with his father, Harold May, and built from an old fireplace! His comments on this instrument, from Queen In Their Own Words (ed. Mick St. Michael, Omnibus Press, 1992, p62) are:


"I like a big neck - thick, flat and wide. I lacquered the fingerboard with Rustin's Plastic Coating. The tremelo is interesting in that the arm's made from an old bicycle saddle bag carrier, the knob at the end's off a knitting needle and the springs are valve springs from an old motorbike."
In addition to his homemade guitar, he also prefers to use coins instead of more traditional plastic plectrums, on the basis that their rigidity gives him more control.

He had been part way through a PhD course when Queen took off, and never completed his astronomy doctorate. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science in November 2002 by Hertfordshire University.
