Willy Wonka Remake...Looking for info about the production....Anybody?
A remake of a favorite movie with one of my favorite actors, Jonny Depp, being made in North Carolina?

I'm trying to find out information about this production in hope of joining.

Anybody have any info on who's doing it, where and when?

Specifically, I'd be trying to get on as an assistant/apprentice editor.

Thanks in advance.

1. I don't know why they are doing this......
First off, I love Tim Burton. One of my favorite directors ever (and this includes his misfires like Planet of the Apes). And Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors.

I just think remaking a classic movie, even if it is going to be more based on the Dahl book, is a big mistake.

4. I love Willie Wonka (the movie)
but don't think it was a good interpretation of the Dahl book. It is a good movie, but maybe the new one will be different enough to stand apart. Johnny Depp is a great choice.

Dahl is a great writer. We've read most of his books to our son, and he is starting on them by his own accord now!

5. Dahl was not happy with the Gene Wilder version
is what I've heard, therefore his estate is looking to do another version. And they are happy with the choice of Burton.

I haven't read the book (for shame!) but evidently WW is supposed to be a much darker character than he came across in the first movie.

Johnny and Tim are the appropriate people to give it creepiness with heart.

2. Ehhhhh....I'll take Gene Wilder, thanks
I like Burton, but his "re-imagining" of POTAs was huge steaming pile.

3. Auditions for kids will be in Asheville, NC this Saturday
The casting agent will be in Asheville looking for kids:

1) A girl who looks about 10

2) A boy who looks about 12-13.

No need to prepare anything, just come in and read.

Filming will be at Ealing Studios in England, AFAIK.

That's all I know, so far.... stay tuned.

Wish I were a prepupescent kid, I'd be in Asheville in a heartbeat! :D

:D I can't wait for this!

And don't forget, this fall Johnny is in "J M Barrie's Neverland" about how J M Barrie came to write and produce Peter Pan.

9. OMG, remaking something that is a perfect classic would be like
remaking The Honemooners. Doomed to failure. Johnny Depp is great, but Gene Wilder, in that role is precious.

10. I can't wait.
Yes, Gene Wilder and Jack Albertson were great, but Charlie's acting was abysmal.

I loved Veruca Salt-- I want to see how they do casting her.

FSC-- "Don't care how...I want it now.."
