Poll question: For Smokey's birthday: favorite song by THE MIRACLES?
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 01:11 PM by NightTrain
As I mentioned earlier, the great William "Smokey" Robinson was born in Detroit 64 years ago today, on February 19, 1940. So here's a poll in his honor!

3. Happy Birthday, Smokey!
I voted for "I Second That Emotion", but it's a 3-way tie between that one, "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" and others not listed here.

You'll see my smiiiillle looks out of place.

7. Smokey had (has) a phenomenal voice
and is an outstanding songwriter (how many people know he also wrote the Four Tops' hit, My Girl?), and I dearly love all these tunes (most particularly I Second That Emotion), but don't forget to give a shout-out to the uncredited and unparalleled studio musicians who created the Motown sound for Smokey and others - the Funk Brothers. (I saw them in concert a couple months ago, and the surviving members still KICK ASS.)

The only singer I've ever heard do justice to a Smokey cover was John Lennon, whose singing abilities were often underappreciated.

8. If there's a smile on my face
it's only there trying to fool the public
But when it comes down to fooling you
Ah honey that's quite a different subject
Don't let my glad expression give you the wrong impression
Baby, I'm sad.....

(Good stuff!)

11. If I'd crossed this post 5 minutes ago, it would have been
"More Love." Since I found it now, it's "Go-Go."

Damn, the BESTEST voice...

Here's to you, Smokey! :toast:
