Detroit Pistons trading to get Rasheed Wallace!!!
AND Mike James from the Celtics! YAY!!! :D

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1739128

The Detroit Pistons won the Rasheed Wallace sweepstakes Thursday, ending his one-game Atlanta Hawks career, in a trade deadline swap that also involved the Boston Celtics, a Pistons source told ESPN Insider's Chad Ford.

Detroit received Wallace and Mike James from Boston, while giving up Chucky Atkins, Lindsey Hunter, its No. 1 draft pick and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Atlanta received Chris Mills from Boston, Zeljko Rebraca and Bob Sura from Detroit and the Bucks' No. 1 draft pick that was owed to the Pistons.

Boston received Atkins, Hunter and the Pistons' aforementioned package of a No. 1 pick and cash, while surrendering Mills and James.

1. Dumb...dumb...dumb!!
To give up a first round draft choice for a person of questionable ethics like Wallace, especially since he will be gone after this year.

All we did was rent this guy for a few months at a cost of a first round draft choice..and its not like we are so close to knocking Sacramento off for the championship either...what a waste!

5. Wrong...wrong...wrong.
First of all, that draft pick isn't that high. Secondly, dumping Atkins frees up cap space to resign Mehmet Okur and/or Rasheed this summer.

As it is, the Pistons are instantly back in contention.

4. This is amusing:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=smith_sam&id=1737218

...Pistons. You knew Larry Brown wasn't going to like that 3-point shooting point guard. He's been griping some of late about Chauncey Billups, who, as their best player last season, was the only one who could make a layup. (Sorry, Ben.) Billups hit big shots all season to save them. But they came stumbling into the break with five straight losses and Brown questioning just who they were after 50 games. They're not about to make any major personnel changes. Yes, it's another Eastern team without a road map.

6. You're right, it is amusing.
What a difference an hour makes. Pistons are serious contenders now to come out of the East.

Nets/Pistons in ECF.

8. Talk about a Bad Boy.
Don't like Wallace's history. I hope Joe Dumars knows what he's doing. The Pistons were indeed spinning their wheels. But, some serious character issues here. The Pistons ought to bring back Laimbeer as an assistant coach who won't put up with any crap.

9. Larry Brown doesn't think so
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-pistons-brown&prov=ap&type=lgns

NEW YORK (AP) -- Larry Brown simply loves Rasheed Wallace, who again was the subject of a trade rumor Tuesday just a few days after being dealt from Portland to Atlanta.

``I love Rasheed, he's a Carolina guy,'' Brown said. ``You bring his name up to anybody in this league and every coach is going to go 'Wow,' and every teammate he's ever been with is pretty positive about him.''

10. Blazer fan here, saying, "HAW HAW"
I was a big Sheed fan. Heck, I've got a Sheed jersey I'll sell for cheap. But the guy is not a savior. Brown may have gotten AI to come around, but AI always wanted to be the go-to guy. He wanted the ball down the stretch.

Not so with Sheed. With his talent, he should be the centerpiece of any team. But P-land catered to his every need--Paul Allen bought a freaking RADIO STATION for him--and how did he repay us? Rudeness to fans. Laughing in the locker room after losses. Inconsistent effort.

All I'm saying is, take it from someone who knows--don't get happy just yet. You're in for a rough ride.

12. Well this Jazz fan is happy to see him out of the Western Conference!
Woo haa! Bye bye Sheed!

As a Blazers fan you have my sympathy for all your team has gone through the last couple of years.

Portland has some guys I like a lot, and they regularly kicked our asses in the playoffs lately.

Before we became Sacramento's whipping boy that is. :(

13. Now that there's a team in New Orleans again...
...can you guys pleeease give them back the "Jazz" name?

I'm guessing there are more jazz clubs in New Orleans than there are hornets, and vice versa in Utah.

14. Best Blazer/Jazz matchups were
back in the early 90's, when Malone and Buck Williams faced off. I don't think those guys were on friendly terms.

Thanks for the sympathy :)

15. Mourning the Trailblazers...
With Rasheed gone, that pretty much marks the end of the Portland team I loved. And now, he's going to the Pistons... and I'm gonna root against him.

'Nuff about Rasheed... I'm more concerned about what will happen to Iverson!

18. Well...
This Piston fan had a similiar feeling when you guys signed 'Zo, and we all know how that worked out.

But still, Trader Joe got us the inside scorer we needed for next to nothing. He's a damn genius.

22. Next to nothing??
I wouldn't call two (2) first round draft choices nothing...especially for a guy that is going to be gone next year!

23. well...
Both will be in the 20th pick range, for one. Second, most experts are saying that this year's draft will be relatively weak. Third, the Piston's wouldn't have room for picks next year anyway, as Delfino (last year's other first rounder besides Darko) will be coming from overseas, as well as the Greek kid they drafted in the second round last year (possibly).

Besides, the most important thing was clearing cap room to sign Okur next year. Mission accomplished. That alone is worth the lost picks. Rasheed is just icing on the cake.

19. Question from a Celtics fan
What exactly was the benefit to us being involved in this trade? What are we getting in Chucky Atkins?

21. Chucky
Personally, I think he's one of the better back up points in the L. I think we're really going to miss him.

As for his strengths, he's a pretty decent shooter who comes to play every night, and is a great teammate. He's not afraid to take big shots and makes more than he misses. I think he's hit more game winners for Pistons in the last few years than anyone else.

However, he's an awful defender, and a pretty poor passer to boot. Basically, he's good for some instant offense off the bench, and he'll be good in the locker room.

But to answer your first question, I'm not really sure what benefits the Celts in this trade. They get a low 1st rounder, but Mike James is pretty much an equal of Atkins.

Ainge is an idiot, if you ask me.

24. Also, will Sheed stay in Motown?
I hope Det fans aren't taking my posts as pissing on your parade :+ but this article is interesting:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/19/sports/basketball/19WALL.html

The rumor that Sheed is intent on getting to the Knicks even if he has to take the midlevel exception has been around for a long time, even months before we sent him to Atlanta. I suspect the "person close to Wallace" is Damon Stoudamire, who said that Sheed wanted to be a Knick a while ago. You might want to check out the Blazers blog at oregonlive.com--they're still talking about him. It's like getting a kidney stone removed: You're glad its gone but it's still going to be a topic of conversation for a while.

26. Pat Swilling. Juan Gonzalez. Remember?
I predict the same with this trade. Here's a couple others from the distant past: Bob McAdon't. Nate Colbert. Plenty more, from all our teams. This is not a character guy. I hope Joe Dumars knows what he's doing. We have seen this before.
