You can't hold him responsible for the beliefs of his father. He has explicitly, on more than one occasion, rejected his fathers wacky notions about the holocaust.

As far as I can see the guy has done nothing that would warrant the kinds of attacks on him that I see on here all the time.

I doubt it...even the head of the Anti-Defamation League clearly says that neither Mel Gibson nor his movie are anti-semitic. I know it is fashionable to attack him now because he is a conservative Catholic...but there is nothing wrong with that. And as I said above, you cannot hold him responsible for the views of his father.

I believe in religious freedom. In fact, my faith (Unitarian Universalism) was founded on the belief that all religions have inherant worth, and that all should be free to worship as they see fit. Mel Gibson has done nothing but espouse his own religious viewpoint, and has made a movie expressing it. The head of the anti-defamation League has specifically said he did not believe this movie was anti-semitic. I think he is being unfairly attacked.
