Have Personal Injury Lawyers Ripped You Off? |
|
My mother was a part of a class action lawsuit brought on by attorney Morris Bart. The drug Rezulin imflamed her liver causing her to be hospitalized for two weeks and to undergo several very expensive invasive tests costing thousands of dollars. When her settlement came it amounted to a measely $650 -- not even the cost of one test nor the pain and suffering. I am starting to feel like one of those Repubs who are are against tort reform because this law firm was greedy big time. My mom says that she is not going to sign the release (you see, everyone has to sign it in order for everyone -- including the greedy lawyers to get their share). We just want to know if there are other Morris Bart clients who feel the way we do and are going to boycott them so that they won't get their million dollar fees while giving their plaintiffs a pentance?

1. Contact Trial Lawyers for Public Justice |
|
www.tlpj.com They have a group there who investigates class action abuse. BTW, your mom could choose to opt-out and file on her own.

3. It's unfortunate but it's not PI lawyers but |

these class action lawyers who give all of us a bad name (I'm an attorney, but not in PI). They grab a case and get a huge number of people and then usually settle for 10 cents on the dollar. They get the bulk of the money. You see their ads on TV late at night. Personal Injury lawyers (the reputable ones like John Edwards) usually take individual cases and they often try that case before a jury. They take no fees up front so all the legal work is out of pocket for them and a loss if they lose the case. I have often referred people to good PI lawyers to have their cases "rated". That is when the lawyer looks closely at the case and the facts and tells you what your realistic chances are. There are many good people in that particular specialty and it's too bad that the greedy bad ones ruin their reputation as well. Your mother should consult a good PI lawyer.
