Bloody military!

Now my nephew Tom is told that he is not being deployed to Afghanistan. After nearly six weeks of panic on my family's part -- including my 92-year-old mother, whom we told the news two weeks ago -- my nephew's National Guard unit (at least right now) is not being sent to Afghanistan.

Tom -- along with five other guys from his unit -- withdrew from college because of this. Partly because they did not know if they would be allowed to finish the semester, partly because of accelerated training, and partly because these guys wanted to spend time with family, girlfriends, etc., in the interim before being sent to hell for a year.

But, thank the gods. Thanks to all for listening to my rant.

1. That's great news!!
Why am I the only one who bothered to recognize that?

We'll have to have a couple to celebrate his reprieve next weekend! :toast:

2. Thanks, Susang.
We are very excited about this. Hope it doesn't change.

Look forward to seeing you on 3/7.

3. Is this the father of the triplets?
In any case, very good news!

4. No, it's the triplets' uncle.
Their father -- thank the gods -- is 40 and not military minded. Avoided it like the plague.
