Today is NFL Legacy Day, in which teams are wearing their 1960 vintage uniforms (if the team existed back then) - including the referees. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the AFL (American Football League), which from the 1960-'61 season through the end of the 1969-'70 season, was a separate professional football league from the NFL. The Dallas Texans, who started with the AFL in 1960, moved by the beginning of the 1963-'64 season and became the Kansas City Chiefs.

During the AFL's 10 season run, each league played a championship title game, so there were two separate professional football champions - but it wasn't until January 1967 that the champions of both leagues played each other for the first time. We now know that game as "Super Bowl I". Only the first four Super Bowls were match-ups between the AFL and NFL Champions. After the end of the 1969-'70 season, the AFL was merged with the NFL, so in the fall of 1970, only one league remained.

Keep in mind, before the first four Super Bowls, AFL teams NEVER played NFL teams. Those four Super Bowls are the ONLY time in history teams from each league played each other.

So in reality, the Dallas Texans never played the Dallas Cowboys (who began their existence in 1960 also, but in the NFL) - but it makes for a clever marketing ploy.

23. Romo is great. We need an offensive scheme that other teams don't know better than us.

Romo is inconsistent because he's having to improvise every play because the original play is busted before it begins. Garrett calls plays, but he doesn't know how to call an entire game. He calls runs and passes randomly instead of using one to set up the other. Brady or Manning would be inconsistent in this offense. The only reason the Cowboys win is because they have so much talent. Romo, Witten, Barber, Choice, Jones (when he's not injured), Crayton, Austin (he proved that today).

The defense is great under Philips, except his two minute defense. And I don't know how much role he plays in calling the offense. I don't know that he's a good head coach, but he's a good defensive coordinator.

Every team in the AFC will wear throwbacks at least once this year.

Today is NFL Legacy Day, in which even some non-AFL teams (like the Cowboys) wore their 1960 vintage uniforms. It's to promote the clothing line "NFL Legacy" - which includes those sweatshirts the coaching staffs were wearing.

Opening weekend was when all the old AFL teams wore their uniforms. Today it includes a few NFL teams.

I think they waited until week 2 because they were each others' first AFL opponents of the season.

Today's loophole was the clothing line promo - hence an NFL team like the Cowboys participating. And on Thanksgiving every year, throwbacks are in vogue.

They'll find a way to maximize it.
