2. Naturally, Symantec didn't do jack-shit to help....
it detected it, but couldn't remove it.

5. Spyware Doctor....
The free download only detects it- to remove it, you have to buy the program but they have a $6 60 day trial (which I ended up paying for out of frustration). So far, it seems to have worked but I'm still in the process of running a full scan after rebooting.

6. No need to buy anything,
there's the manual removal posted to be done in Windows safe mode if you're up to do it. And trash Symantec, it's simply not worth it. Get AVG inseatd, and it's free: http://free.avg.com/ww-en/homepage

7. I don't have the time to frak around with the manual removal...
And a while back, someone else in the company got chastized for uninstalling Symantec on an office computer (they paid for a site license, and they're going to use it- crappy or not). :eyes:

For $6, I can also load it on my personal computer and see if it's any good. I skipped lunch today anyway, so I guess I'm even.

9. And it's always worked for me and the people I know.
Every time. I keep it on a flash drive for emergencies.

10. yeah, the BEST.
I've got seven computers and another twelve at my office plus a website with servers and I've learned over the past fifteen years:

Norton is too sensitized to use in a work platform: it slows everything to a crawl because of ongoing constant scans.

Symantec has good emergency crash resources, but misses SO MUCH STUFF.

malwarebytes is the best. Period.
In combo with Kapersky labs.
