1. My dear NNadir!
Oh, wow, another beautiful painting from the Guggenheim!

Is this the one you mentioned the other day when you posted that gorgeous nude?

I LOVE this one. Look at his pants! They look like buildings, or bricks. This painting reminds me of the Fiddler on the Roof...

Was he Jewish?

Anyway, it's a wonderful painting!

Thanks for posting!

:hi:

3. Hi Peg. Chagall was indeed Jewish. He barely escaped from France during the war
and came to the US, not quite as famous, as he would end up.

Chagall was said by those who studied him to be frequently looking back at his Jewish life in Russia, but refused himself to offer any verbal explanation for his paintings.

5. Look at the man flying through the air behind the violinist. He's using free, renewable WIND power!
:P

6. Or maybe Chagall is just, um, engaged in magical thinking.
I've seen a lot of Chagalls over the years, many involving floating beings.

For the life of me I can't recall seeing an actual floating being.

However I am never surprised at the depth and persistance of magical thinking. It would be better if we had persistance of memory, like the memory of through how many changes in the measurement of carbon dioxide we've been hearing about magical free wind power.

I take painting seriously, and science seriously, and I know that science is an art, but consider that art is not necessarily science.

Wind power is not free. Were it, Cape Wind would not be projecting wholesale prices higher than retail consumer prices in Massachusetts. This is an awful thing to spend money on when the arts and real sciences, not to mention health, and the planet's very atmosphere are all impoverished.
