Lounge advice needed: Job A, or Job B?
Greetings Fellow Loungites!

Here's the deal; I have recently relocated to a small town and am unemployed. Out of the dozen or so jobs listed in the local paper, I feel qualified to respond to two.

Job A: Part time laundrymat attendant.

Job B: Manager of a medical marijuana dispensary.

So, what say you? (Let it be noted that I am not destitute and can make the rent, etc. for a while.)

1. B
It's F/T and managers make more loot. All other factors are secondary.

4. I'm a little concerned about my resume.
If I ever go back to my "career", it might not play that well. I guess I could put down that I was in the custody of the state or something during that period...:D

5. Been my experience that employers will work with you...
in these situations. Presuming the name isn't something obvious like "Pot Emporium" you can easily skirt the issue. To wit:

The Nevada Center Jan 2011-Mar 2014. Managed a medical dispensary serving 2700 patients....etc.

6. Not bad...
I'll have to think about it, I guess.

2. Apply for both, but if you get offers for both, go for job B
Probably much more interesting. Laundromat attendant - not so fun cleaning up after really messy people.

3. You think?
How messy can people get at a laundry? Spilled soap? I've got mad mop skillz. You are probably right about the interest factor, though. :)

8. Think about leaky washers, sloppy patrons with drinks, food, smokes, etc...
I would apply for both, take the 2nd job if offered. Speaking for myself, I would feel a bit more self-satisfaction with that one.

9. I don't know.
I don't get that much satisfaction from work - it's just a way to sustain myself at this point. I've been the boss before and subordinates are generally a pain in the ass. Then again, so are bosses.

I can definitely imagine that the patrons at the dispensary could be every bit as "problematic" as at a laundry. I guess it boils down to how much responsibility I care to take on.:dilemma:

11. um, yeah.
Grotesque globs of hair left in washers, gum in washers, people who clean diapers or other similarly dirty items that don't always rinse out of the washers, overflowing washers, people who then step in the overflowing water and leave dirty footprints all over, etc. It isn't all clean soap suds...

If I were you, I'd *vastly* prefer the other option.

16. How messy?
My daughter worked in one for a while. This will probably get deleted, but think of things you would not want to put in your own washmachine. That's what shows up at the laundromat.

You aren't even close to crossing any lines around here!:P

22. I've had them deleted before.
Any reference to bodily functions, even if I think it is more for information than anything else. Maybe it was just the mod's mood that day.

7. Oversaw the timely and efficient fulfillment of medical supplies for a variety of patients.
sounds more impressive on a resum to me than, "Exchanged quarters for dollars and put up 'Out of Order' signs." Who cares whether it was marijuana, or prescription morphine in a pharmacy that you managed? The actual product doesn't matter, the work you did is what matters.

10. I think there would be a stigma with MMJ.
Depending on who and where, of course, but it's probably only slightly better than "adult bookstore manager" in most corporate circles. Maybe slightly worse... I probably wouldn't put the laundry job on my resume in any case, as I have a thirty year work history - it wouldn't add anything.

There are also gov't. background checks to consider if I decide to return to my field. I'd have a lot of 'splainin' to do.

13. A what?
We don't have that here, but there are a couple independent coffee shops.

Funny story time: When I was a young PFC in the army I didn't drink coffee. My first day of CQ (Charge of Quarters) Duty I was supposed to have coffee ready for the First Sergeant, when he came in around 5am. He had one of those huge 30 cup percolators outside his office. I didn't know that, and he quickly set me straight. Trying to be all I could be, I ran it down to the latrine and filled it up. (No, that was the only sink big enough - :spank:)

Half an hour later I heard Top yelling my name, and not in a good way... I hurried in to his office. "What the #$%&* did you do to the coffee?" "Nothing, First Sergeant, I just filled it with water..." "And...?" "Well, I used hot water so it would be ready faster."

We actually got along pretty well, after "the coffee incident".

14. You do realize that a laudromat attendant's primary job is to do the laundry of...
people who drop it off in big bags, don't you?

(That alone should influence your decision.)

15. Take job B, if you can...
Too many strange things happen inside laundry mats. OTOH, you may be depressed with the sorts who will need medical marijuana, but they'll legitimately feel better.

25. Hell, I have one story from when I was visiting my nephew in San Fran...
Some person had a fight right outside the laundry mat and it looked ugly. I wanted to get out of there so fast, but couldn't. We had at least 6 loads of nephew laundry going, and by the looks from some of the patrons, he may have lost a few things, had we chanced to leave.

Of course, there was also a side show, as some guy who clearly didn't have any more undies decided to sit with his legs apart. Jeeeeezzzz....
