"Scrotum"
was the best line from the movie "Caligula". It just so fit the moment. I don't remember too much about the rest of the movie, well I haven't seen it in over ten years, but at the moment he just says it with such simultaneous contempt and resignation that I rank it as one of the best single-word dialogue lines of all time.

2. Beat me to it
The Asylum Street Spankers, formed in Austin, Texas in 1994, was a band whose music was rooted in early 20th century American musical forms. In fall 2006, the band's anti-war satire video "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmsOIjzQ1V8">Stick Magnetic Ribbons on Your SUV", directed by Morgan Higby Night garnered 1,054,743 views on YouTube within the first two months of its release. The band dissolved after a final tour in spring 2011.

3. I'll admit it, I cried at one point when I first heard Magnetic Ribbon
I was also sad when I heard they broke up. Nevertheless, they had a good run at in a tough industry.

6. I had never HEARD of that -- a good example of just how good (and funny) they were. Thanks. n/t

7. Yeah, I heard them on Bob & Tom back when
Now Bob & Tom weren't particularly progressive but they weren't particularly anti either. But they had plenty of subversive, progressive guests so I think they were about whatever was funny.

8. Bob & Tom ARE about what's funny... but I did get something of a conservative vibe...
.
.
.
... from them and MANY of the guests they would have on. Nothing grating
or abrasive -- just around the corner type stuff.
.
.
.
They put out anthologies of music that the guests perform on their shows
and, other than the fact that their laughter can be distracting, those
collections are pretty incredible. They figured heavily in my comedy/novelty
radio show (as did Dr Demento's every-5-year-anniversary collections).

.
Both those sources introduced me to comedic musical talents of which I
would have been otherwise unaware.

9. I have a ton of their stuff
that I've ripped to mp3 so I can simply leave out the more obnoxious conservative crap from my mixes. And yeah, their insistent giggling throughout the bits is a little annoying. And a lot of their stuff is NASCAR themed for some reason, which I don't find all that interesting. Still, there are lots of laughs to be found.

Their 1994 collection, "Air Bags" has one of my favorites (note my username): Liquor & Poker All Night, a song consisting almost entirely of double-entendres:

4. I was in working on our radio station's music collection database one weekend...
.
.
.
...when the Asylum Street Spankers came in for a pre-show interview here in Tucson.
.
.
.
While in the 'Green Room" (where I could hear them), they were constantly bouncing
riffs and chords and lyrics and songs and jokes and ideas off each other. They were
the most "committed to their art/craft" musicians I have ever met -- and they were
HILARIOUS!!!
.
What a GREAT fucking collection of music-nerd weirdos. Shame, they're either retiring
after this year's tour (or they may have already split up).
