4. "I Walk On Gilded Splinters" from "Performace: Rockin' The Fillmore"

Holy FUCK, that one STILL terrifies.

The whole album is a classic, but that track has such power and precision and drama that it borders on the complexity of classic prog like KC, ELP, YEs, Genesis, etc. (especially the instrumental interlude that leads up to the "Leavin' Trunk" section...this is no sloppy jam. It's precision, as if the entire section had been composed in advance. Players weave in and out of each others' solos without a single misstep).

I think my all-time favorite Steve Marriott moment comes in the "Leavin' Trunk" section of "Splinters, where Clempson, Frampton and Marriott each take a turn on a couple of lines from the verse:

CLEMPSON: "I went upstairs to pack my leavin' trunk I ain't see no blues, whiskey made me sloppy drunk..."

FRAMPTON: "I ain't never seen no whiskey, the blues made me sloppy drunk..."

MARRIOTT: "I'm going back to Memphis babe, where I'll have much better luck..."

11. The RRHOF is a joke.

When Zodiak graduated from Ohio State, his parents came up for the ceremony. My FIL is a musician as was Zodiak, so we thought it would be a fun thing to do while they were visiting.

First, to have to pay more than $20 to get in is ridiculous. There isn't enough in the building to see that would constitute paying that much. You can't take your camera with you into the main exhibit hall. It must be checked at a little window. The exhibits are alright. It's more like walking through a fashion museum that anything. They have some instruments, but it's mostly old show flyers, posters, and magazine covers. The best part of all the exhibits was the beginnings of Rock and Roll with a lot of the space dedicated to Les Paul.

As a bass player, Zodiak was very disappointed at how little they focused on bass players and also the lack of heavier artists included.

It was an interesting day, but I wouldn't spend the money to go again. Besides, I already touched Janis Joplin's porche and Jimi Hendrix's mixing board even though I wasn't supposed to.

No rules in Rock and Roll!
