Peace rally focuses on Iraq and Israel
June 6, 2004
Anti-war advocates, poets and musicians drew a crowd of about 100 to a peace rally Saturday on Monument Circle.
Protesters converged on the north side of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument to demand both an end to the violence in Iraq and to Israel's use of force against Palestinians.
Saturday marked the 37th anniversary of the Israeli military's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza strip.
"The rally was fun, but the cause is not fun," Henry Gerner, president of Christians for Peace and Justice in the Middle East, told the crowd. "We cannot be silent for fear of being considered unpatriotic."
