The ACT Opposition and Greens have accused the Government of taking a backward step on environmental policy with the release of a discussion paper on a climate change strategy this week.
The discussion paper calls for public comment on plans for a new climate change policy. The current ACT Government abandoned reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions set by the former Carnell government.
The discussion paper questioned whether targets were needed but Opposition Leader Brendan Smyth said they were essential.
"If you don't have targets how will you know that you have achieved anything - commonsense will tell you that targets are necessary to make this happen," he said.
