WORCESTER, England, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit at the University of Worcester is warning British citizens the pollen season could begin at any moment.
Based on the presence of pollen seen in the air by unit researchers, the institute has warned this year's pollen season could potentially begin months before its traditional start date, The Daily Mail reported.
"There are low amounts of hazel, alder and yew tree pollen in the air, which are mildly allergenic," unit researcher, Dr. Matthew Smith, said. "We would advise people to keep an eye on forecasts and there is definitely the possibility that the pollen season could start early this year."
Britain's estimated 3 million hay fever sufferers received even worse news from the unit as researchers predicted that ongoing climate change could ultimately lead to year-round problems.
