A report on climate change to be released by the UN in May reveals that the consequences of global warming are much more severe than have been expected, the Executive Director of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) Achim Steiner said on Tuesday.
Steiner said during his visit to Brazil that such a conclusion will be part of the UN report on climate change.
He added that all countries need to build a consensus in order to respond multilaterally to the consequences of the greenhouse effect.
Steiner met Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Minister of Environment Marina Silva and members of the Ministry of Foreign Relations On Monday and discussed various issues including Brazil's leadership in programs on deforestation fighting, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and production of green energy.
