Yemen, Saudi reach compromise on border
Yemen says Saudi Arabia agrees to stop building barrier in exchange for greater cooperation on tightening border.
SANAA - Yemen said Wednesday that Saudi Arabia agreed to stop building a controversial barrier on their border in exchange for greater cooperation in curbing smuggling and infiltration along the frontier.
"Crown Prince Abdullah has given instructions to stop construction of the barrier on the Saudi side of the border," said Yemen's official news agency Saba said at the end of a 24-hour visit to Riyadh by Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Saba said both sides had agreed to step up joint patrols along the 1,800-kilometer (1,100-mile) border to prevent smuggling and infiltration.
