Stringent new gun laws come into effect in three weeks amid allegations of corruption within the body authorised to issue licences, sparking fears that there may be chaos for more than two million gun owners.
On July 1, existing and new gun owners will have to apply for a licence, taking tough competency tests and meeting strict requirements aimed at making gun ownership more difficult.
But as the deadline nears, there are growing fears over whether police have the capacity to implement the regulations since several employees of the central firearms registry are being investigated for alleged corruption.
