Another proposal for incremental gun Prohibition, from Saul Cornell
Edited on Sun Jan-16-11 09:05 PM by friendly_iconoclast
Nice of him to let us know ahead of time what he's planning (emphasis added):

http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2011/01/15/saul_cornell_guns/index.html

...Rather than simply banning handguns, an unpopular policy in most parts of the country, the new research suggests a more targeted strategy, with the primary goals being to prevent guns from moving into the black market and to restrict the access of dangerous people -- including those with mental illness -- to firearms. Rather than ban handguns, the new model only uses bans for a very narrow range of particularly dangerous items not essential for sport or individual self-defense: high-capacity magazines for semi-automatic weapons and a few highly unusual weapons such as high caliber sniper rifles...."

Gee, Saul, didja think no one would notice that you begged a couple of questions:

Why did you claim "high-capacity magazines for semi-automatic weapons and a few highly unusual weapons such as high caliber sniper

rifles" are "particularly dangerous items"? And why have you not provided any evidence to back up your claims about these?

1. I assume he is talking about tose Barrett .50 caliber rifles?

Of which no murder/attempt has ever been committed...
Why are .50 cal rifles so dangerous again?

And then there's the fact that the VPC could only come up with 10 shootings (in the past 21 years!) which utilized "hi-capacity magazines"... 5 of which only used standard 15 round mags...
Why are "hi-capacity mags" so dangerous again?

2. Minor correction.
No murders, but three crimes. An attack on an armored car, that left two injured. The 'killdozer' guy. And a guy that killed his wife in a supermarket, while apparently carrying most of his gun collection with him. His .50 was slung on his back though, it was not a factor in the murder.

4. Yeah, he didn't hit anything with it.
Looks like a Barrett M82A1, from interior shots. (Or a civilian equivalent)

I can find zero fatalities.

9. You are wasting your time, brother. Some folks just have no use for facts.
Facts get in the way of hyperbole, and we cant have that!
