'Occupy Broad Ripple With Guns' Fires Up Business Owners
http://www.theindychannel.com/news/29863719/detail.html

INDIANAPOLIS -- A group of licensed gun owners urged people to bring their firearms to Broad Ripple on Saturday to raise awareness about the recent crime spike in the area.

As dozens of gun owners gathered at the rally, other Hoosiers in the area voiced concerns on if the event was necessary.

<snip>

"We don't allow weapons in here at all," said Larry Niehaus, owner of Broad Ripple Pub. "I don't think any problem gets solved with loaded handguns, especially in an area where alcohol is the source of enjoyment."

<snip>

"The flyer kind of hurt me a little bit, especially on the third page because it says a noose for Mexicans and African-Americans," Vela said.

4. Gun-control is founded on racism -- to this very day.

6. reality is more complex than you think
both exist at the same time. There have been and still are racist and classist motivations. Who are these real historians?

7. If it's true, it doesn't matter who said it. You apparently agree- when convenient:

8. Wrong again. The only "real historians" to you are controllers...

"Investigative reporter Robert Sherrill, himself no lover of guns, concluded in his book The Saturday Night Special that the object of the Gun Control Act of 1968 was black control rather than gun control. According to Sherrill, Congress was so panicked by the ghetto riots of 1967 and 1968 that it passed the act to 'shut off weapons access to blacks, and since they (Congress) probably associated cheap guns with ghetto blacks and thought cheapness was peculiarly the characteristic of imported military surplus and the mail-order traffic, they decided to cut off these sources while leaving over-the-counter purchases open to the affluent.'"

9. Are you going to try and tell me
that black people were denied their right to be armed during the Reconstruction (and for a very long time afterward) for some reason OTHER than racism? South Carolina still has gun laws on the books that make carrying a firearm unusually difficult (in comparison to most states) that are nothing more than holdovers from that era.

16. North Carolina has racist gun laws to this day
It is illegal to carry guns during a declared emergency.

This was meant so that if the blacks got armed and uppity, a simple declaration of emergency would give the government legal authority to disarm them all.

Of course whites wouldn't be touched. I've read quotes from old cases that basically say "This was never meant to prevent a white man from having a gun."

You need a permit from the Sheriff to buy a pistol in North Carolina. Long ago, the purpose was to give the racist locals the ability to deny permits to blacks.

10. More evidence that those who carry in public are often bigots/racists. Good for Niehaus for

not allowing guns in his pub. Wish more people would stand up to folks who carry in public.

11. Is that why you recommended running them down and detaining them
to "check their papers"? How is that working for you?

17. Additional Information:
http://mzmadmike.livejournal.com/111081.html

"So, this Saturday past was "Occupy Broad Ripple (With Guns)" here in Indy, in response to a series of crimes in the area.

http://www.wthr.com/story/16096793/awareness-is-aim-of-occupy-broad-ripple-with-guns

Please note this quote:

"It is legal as far as we're concerned for people to carry their guns if they have a valid permit," says IMPD Officer Catherine Cummings.

Got that? It's constitutional, it's legal, it's a right in this state.

A lot of us wanted to be there, but weather and family stuff intervened for a lot of us.

Now, there's some debate that one of the organizers may post on a white supremacist forum. I can't speak to this, because I don't know the man, and I do know my articles have been copied on a number of sites I don't approve of. I will state, however, that lacking any criminal action on his part, he has a right, if he so chooses, to be a racist asshole. Once this discussion started, the gentleman recused himself from the event organization."

More at initial link. Sounds like either crap reporting or deliberately slanted reporting to me. YMMV.

18. That bar owner has likely lead to more deaths
than any of the rewd toterz in the area. Sending plastered drivers into the night is as dangerous as randomly firing a gun.
