(Calif. not Va.) Richmond man shoots home invaders - 1 dead, 1 hurt
Edited on Thu Dec-08-11 08:34 PM by alp227
A Richmond resident opened fire on two men who broke into his home, killing one and wounding another, police said Thursday.

The shooting happened at a home on the 400 block of South 35th Street near Cutting Boulevard, in the flatlands north of Interstate 580, at about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The resident and several others were inside when a group of men broke into their home, said police Lt. Bisa French.

"Apparently they were attempting a home-invasion robbery, and the victim actually fought back and ended up shooting both these suspects," French said.

This wouldn't have been legal in Europe because most countries there lack an equivalent of the American 2nd Amendment. I've heard of stories in the UK where robbery victims were arrested for performing self defense on robbers.

2. The home invasion wouldn't have happened in Europe either.
Virtually unknown. But I suppose the answer is to arm everyone? :eyes:

7. I'm glad too but he wasn't using America's greatest freedom
I'm a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment. But no fucking way does it outrank freedom of speech.

10. It backs up the 1st....without the 2nd, would the 1st still exist?
I have a feeling it would have disappeard years and years back. As it stands now the 1st is just words on paper, and we do it to ourselves. We silence ourselves for fear of a boycotts and lawsuits. We stay silent to keep from becoming targets of homeland security.

12. In the abstract you may be correct
As it applies to individuals, I'm not so sure. I can only speak from my own experience of course.

But I have a fairly large collection of firearms. I also possess some strong opinions and a tendency to vocalize them freely. I've never really felt that owning a lot of guns gives me the freedom to express my opinions. That right was guaranteed to me because I live in America. I got my first gun at age 8, but I was an opinionated little bastard long before that.

In any event I'm not willing to concede any of my freedoms, regardless of which amendment guarantees them to me.

15. I don't know, it might be our greatest now.
We don't really have freedom of speech anymore, due process is only when they can be bothered, and you can be tortured into confessions with no accountability.

So it's a tossup between "Right to keep and bear arms" and "Don't have to quarter soldiers in your home", since those are pretty much what are left that don't have so many exceptions and ways around them that they actually do what they were intended to do.
