RAMALLAH, March 21 (KUNA) -- The Israeli government put into force an earlier decision to snub foreign statesmen who meet with Hamas ministers, serving in the cabinet of the Palestinian unity government, local daily Haaretz reported Wednesday.
According to the decision of April 2006 whoever meets Hamas ministers will not be invited to meet Israeli officials. The decision is still in effect and will henceforth be applied in an effort to prevent international recognition of Hamas, the daily quoted diplomatic sources in Jerusalem as saying. The meetings, scheduled on Wednesday for Norway's Deputy Foreign Minister Raymond Johansen with deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh and the Director General of the Foreign Ministry Aharon Abramovitch, were canceled due to Johansen's meetings with Hamas officials.
