GENEVA - The United Nations said on Tuesday it was confident it had raised tens of millions of dollars in new international aid for Palestinian refugees at a special conference called to overcome donor fatigue.
Representatives from 91 countries and international agencies attended a two-day meeting in Geneva to boost humanitarian assistance to 4.1 million Palestinian refugees in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the West Bank and Gaza.
About one-third of the refugees live in camps, many of them crowded urban ghettos with poor sanitation, which are run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
"Before the conference there were clear signs of donor fatigue," UNWRA Commissioner-General Peter Hansen said.
