2. It allows people to come into the US and get paid to do work...
And then they're sent back to their own country when all is said and done. (that's what an acquaintance told me...)

American taxpayer money... not spent even on Americans anymore.

6. It is a scheme to replace anybody and everybody
Forget about farmworkers or Mexican illegals. This is a scheme to replace high skilled Americans as well. See DU "economy" discussion. "Immigration impacts high skilled area" and another thread on H-1B labor arbitage.
You guys better wake up to what the "global economy" BS is really about.

4. I heard the end of it and it is OK. to me any how.
You know the New England mills at one time were the envy of the world. And many owners went to Europe and brought the best mill workers over here. My sister's in-laws came from Sweden and my adopted mother's came from England and my birth mother's from England. That family in 1820 so some came very early. The Fr. came mostly out of Can. All to make these Mills of NE world class. Read the history of the Manchester NH mills which was a town set up to just be a mill town. This has been a stand by thing.

5. There are several different categories of temp work visas.
H-1B Specialty Occupations, DOD workers, fashion models INA Section 101(a)(15)(H)(i)(b) 8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)

H-1C Nurses going to work for up to three years in health professional shortage areas INA Section 101(a)(15)(H)(i)(c) 8 CFR 214.2(h)(3)

H-2A Temporary Agricultural Worker INA Section 101(a)(15)(H)(ii)(a) 8 CFR 214.2(h)(5)

H-2B Temporary worker: skilled and unskilled INA Section 101(a)(15)(H)(ii)(b) 8 CFR 214.2(h)(6)

H-3 Trainee INA Section 101(a)(15)(H)(iii) 8 CFR 214.2(h)(7)

H-4 Spouse or child of H-1, H-2, H-3 INA Section 101(a)(15)(H)(iv) 8 CFR 214.2(h)(9)(iv)

I'm not sure why more people don't apply for the H-2A & H-2B visas. This program seems to be overlooked in all the i;;ega; immigration discussions.

7. Yes, and Rush Limbaugh was ranting about this the other day...
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 10:26 AM by Bush_Eats_Beef
...saying that we need MORE H-1B Visas if we want to attract the "best and brightest" to the USA.

In SOME instances, there COULD be a LEGITIMATE need to find someone in a "specialty occupation."

Bear in mind, however, that Limbaugh was reading off some of the jobs listed under the "Specialty Occupations" category, and one of them was WEB DESIGNER.

Someone please EXPLAIN to me why we need to import FOREIGN WEB DESIGNERS under H-1B Visas when there are SO MANY unemployed Web Designers in the U.S. that of you throw a ROCK you are almost GUARANTEED of hitting one?

Maybe LOW WAGES and NO BENEFITS? I think Limbaugh's agenda includes MUCH more than "attracting the best and brightest."

:grr:

8. I wasn't talking about the H-1B visas, but about the other ones.
There's one for ag workers and another for unskilled workers. I sounds like issuing those would cure most of the illegal problem. I know the US has a limit of 65,000 H-1B's per year, but I don't know if there's a limit on the others.
