Just finished a week-long visit from my mother. We have had a more or less unspoken agreement not to discuss politics, since we sort of know there are many issues (the chief being abortion) on which we never can and never will agree.
However, driving in the car, we passed more than one gas station with prices nearly $3.00 for regular gas. My mother mentioned it, then expressed her disgust at the oil company profits. Finally she said, "I don't know why the government doesn't do something."
Well, finally, I had a way in. I told her that the top of this administration, and the leadership of Congress, has ties with the oil industry going way back, and nothing is likely to happen as long as they are in charge. I hope I got through to her on this point, at least
Everyone has an issue that matters to them and where they can be enlightened.
