2. That is good news. I hope they do it. It will save gas and lives.
NJ is a small mostly urban/suburban state so they can't use the Western wide open spaces-long trips argument.

Hiya BOSS! How are you doing this fine spring day? I heard you got some much needed rain down there. :hi:

but we still have a burn ban. We are lucky to have two firemen live in our neighborhood, one next door. They keep me informed of the right time to burn brush. Its a great day. I had to go to Slidell today for banking business. Its so great to go to my old bank on Pontchartrain. They are still in a trailor but the bank will be open in July. I walked around our old neighborhood. God, that was painful. No sign of my old neighbors, their houses just laying open, the grass has not been mowed since last August. Alot of trailors set up here and there. We are headed to the quarter Sunday Morning for the Bubba Gump 5K; a great little run through the quarter then beer and Shrimp Pasta. Its one Sunday Morning of the year that I truly am religious.

The Jersey speed limit wouldn't effect me. I seldom drive over 55 now. Nothing political I'm just an old fart, who drives slow and stays out of everyone's way. It amazes how fast young people drive and they really aren't going anywhere. I guess I was like that a long, long time ago.

6. Jazz Fest?
I'll be over this weekend for the Fest. It doesn't sound like you're going to that though. Any evening shows you would recommend going to while I'm there?

9. We went to the French Quarter Festival last weekend
Its like a small "local" Jazzfest without the parking hassles. The jazzfest is always awesome with fantastic food. I don't have anything to recommend but check out:

www.nola.com and scroll down to the jazzfest info on the left. It has the schedules.

The PGA golf tourney is also in town this weekend and if you want to run a 5K race, be at Bubba Gumps on Decatur Street at 8:00 sunday morning. Also, be sure to check out the T-shirt shops in the quarter. The creative juices have been flowing since Katrina. Have a great time.

8. Thanks for the Slidell update. The Bubba Gump Run sounds like fun!

Do you run or are you a spectator? ;) Raise a beer to NOLA for me! My sister-in-law is still in KY. We hope to come down in May before it gets too hot to travel.

I drove too fast as a young person too! It might have had something to do with my rocking 1976 Camaor with a tremendous 8 cylinder Checy engine that could power the beast up to 140 MPH. :)

4. YAY!! No need for soldiers to die just so I can drive 75!
Even if they don't it is time to act responsible and cut your own speed and consumption down. Hard to live your convictions. I've been driving 55 for almost 3 years. Get a lot of looks and fingers. I don't care.

7. I seldom drive the speed limit
to me its a safety issue. Actually I seldom drive and I always map out the best and safest route and combine my trips.

5. Not happy about this
There are some highways here that needn't be over 55. But one that definitely needs to be 65 is 287 north of Madison. Going 55 on that long stretch is like traveling cross-country; it just goes on and on and on...

10. I believe it was eventually surmised that reducing the ...
Speed Limit years ago, did not result in much of a saving of fuel, afterall.
It just made everyone feel as if they were doing their "patriotic duty".
Its a freakin hoax, again..throw in the word "patriotic" and "do your part for America", meanwhile BIG OIL FAT CATS fly their private lear jets over all us patriotic guliblites poking along in our little old automobiles.

More would be saved if the Gov't Welfare for big oil would be repealed. Listen to Senator Wyden...today he fought for every American.
Too bad if fell on the deaf ears of the Republican clusterfuck of George Bush and his Big Oil Base.

The only solution to all this trouble is a whole new Government.

12. Which means everybody will be doing 70 instead of 85
You need to be able to do 80mph bumper to bumper on Rt 80 to avoid being killed.

Remind me again why I live in Jersey?

16. Two bonuses:
Edited on Thu Apr-27-06 08:41 PM by no_hypocrisy
1. It will save gas.

2. The towns and state will load up on speeding ticket violation penalties and insurance companies will be able to get higher rates if the speeding ticket is 3 points.

OK, the latter is not a true bonus. It just keeps property taxes down.

17. Yeah Right.
65 mph is the minimmum safe speed on the Garden State go slower you'll get run over by some rabid accountant in an SUV. That is except of course for when an Atlantic City tourbus flips over causing a backup that stretches from Toms River to Woodbridge.

If they don't lynch Corzine over his budget they'll crucify him over this.
