Dean for DNC chairman?

A caller on CSPAN this morning suggested it. With the awful job McCaulif is doing, the idea is growing on me.

2. Wonderful Idea! The backbone Dean installed in the Dem party will not last

without constant "nurturing".

How does one go about getting the DNC chairman? And of course Terry McCaulff isn't going to give up his job that easily.

I really do think that this would be how Gov. Dean could do the most good for the Dem Party.

*I* like the current chairman, but the fact is that Gov. Dean is WAY more popular with Dems than he is.

Dean had the highest unfavorable ratings (often approaching 40%) of any candidate among Democratic primary voters. Not the kind of polarizing figure who tends to rise to head of the party; that's usually a back-room figure whose known for loyalty more than opinions.

a few connected Dems on our candidate, also. They sure didn't help our perception of the current frontrunner.

I don't think Gov Dean is too popular with those in the Democratic Party organizations that have the say to elect him as Chair


Members of the Committee

While anyone who is registered to vote as a Democrat is a member of the Party, there are 440 members of the Democratic National Committee.

The National Committee has 9 elected officers: The Chair, five Vice Chairs, Treasurer, Secretary, and National Finance Chair.

Membership on the National Committee is composed of individuals selected by the Democratic Party organizations in each state (including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico), the U.S. Territories (American Samoa, Guam, and the Virgin Islands), and Democrats living outside the United States and those Territories listed above (Democrats Abroad).

Each jurisdiction is represented by its Chair and the next highest ranking officer of the opposite sex. An additional 200 votes are distributed to the states and territories based on population, with each receiving a minimum of two additional seats. Each delegation must be equally divided between men and women.

Also seated on the DNC are representatives of various Democratic constituencies and elected officials. These include two U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives, two members of the College Democrats, and three representatives each from the Democratic Governors, Mayors, State Legislators, County Officials. Municipal Officials, Young Democrats, and the National Federation of Democratic Women. Fifty members are appointed by the DNC Chairmen, and approved by the DNC, and are considered "Members-at-Large."

13. You start running for National Committee person. Today

Actually, I don't think the party offices are up until next year's conventions. But you'd better be a delegate to your state convention (if it's not too late) and be a "dragger" and make sure that people who share your views are on your State Central Committee.

Keep kicking their ass Terry. The more the Republicans call C-Span to complain about him the better I like him. Go TM!

14. Might be the only way Dems would keep me from going

back to the greens. Terry has lost enough elections to warrant moving on to something else, and FYI anyone can become involved in the DNC at the base level, but folks like Terry don't want that to get out.
