Hillary Clinton brings out Bill to battle Oprah in South Carolina
CNN: December 8, 2007
Hillary Clinton brings out Bill to battle Oprah in S.C.

(CNN) It will be the battle of the rock star surrogates this weekend, with a last minute trip by former President Bill Clinton scheduled for South Carolina as Oprah Winfrey campaigns with Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Clinton's appearance for his wife Senator Hillary Clinton was a surprise, added amid saturation media coverage of Obama's three-state swing.

The former President told reporters at a stop in New York City Friday the trip was a "coincidence", though he'll be in South Carolina the day before Obama and Winfrey stop in Columbia.

During a day of appearances in Charleston, Clinton will speak on health care disparity, attend a forum on the subject, visit patients and families at a Children's Hospital and stop at a downtown Charleston market.

The dueling trips come as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama compete for a bigger share of the critical African-American vote in South Carolina, where the former president remains a popular figure. Hillary Clinton campaigns Saturday in Iowa, as Obama and Winfrey hold two rallies in Iowa.

3. True, Bill is liked far more by democrats
Most of the people who don't like Bill are not democrats. He has the highest approval rates of any living Dem president. Oprah, not so much

After all, what's to like about a politically apathetic (hasn't voted in a primary since 1988) crystal-worshipping celebrity who supported Arnold Schwarzenegar?

8. Was anything I said untrue?
Or was that just another of your baseless accusations?

11. Well...Oprah is viewed "favorably" by 61% of the public, 69% of Democrats.
I guess you're among the 11% who view her "unfavorably." Here's a link. http://www.pollingreport.com/S-Z.htm

As for The Big Doggie, his approval in late June was 51%. http://www.pollingreport.com/clinton1.htm

There's really no contest between Oprah and Big Doggie in terms of who Americans trust and respect more. That being said, this isn't about her versus him, no matter what frame the media hopes to promote.

Your rant about political apathy and crystal worshiping is not worthy of a thoughtful response.

13. Apples and oranges
The #'s for Bill are for ALL people, not just dems. IIRC, Bill's approval rating amongst Dems was in the 80's.

So again, I will ask if anything I said was untrue, and if so, please provide the proof

7. "Highest approval rates of any living Dem president"? There's only one other, you know.
You make it sound like it's some kind of great achievement.

14. bill was the most popular dem president since JFK
You note that there are only two living Dem presidents. That is a testament to what Bill achieved in 1992. Since 1968 we have had 5 Republican presidents. Where was Oprah during all this time?

5. Yeah -- I think it's unfortunate that the press sets this up as a battle...
between Bill and Oprah. But I post these things because I think it's valuable to see how things are presented in the press.

18. When Bill Clinton was here in SC last month...
He drew only 800 people. Kinda pathetic trying to compete with 20,000+ tomorrow for the Obama rally. This is the first I've heard that he would even be here today.

21. which says something about politics today
A great Democrat who has produced great results for Americans is a footnote while a non-entity with no political record who was never there when the Democratic Party needed her in the post is followed like the second coming of Jesus. Clinton was flawed but under him we had a booming economy, 8 years of peace, and poverty fell by millions. Despite this Oprah could not bring herself to support a continution of Clinton's successful policies and gave Bush a platform to reach millions of voters, which likely gave him the extra 500 votes he needed to steal Florida, in 2000...
