Dorothy Rodham, Chelsea join Clinton on Iowa campaign trail
CNN: December 8, 2007
Special guest at Hillary Clinton event in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) Sen. Hillary Clinton's mother, Dorothy Rodham, was the surprise guest at a "Take Your Buddy to Caucus," event in Des Moines Friday night. Sen. Clinton told the crowd of about 500 that she brought her mom as her buddy. She also noted that the last time her mother was in Iowa was 53 years ago.

Someone in the crowd yelled, "Welcome back." Mrs. Rodham sat down without making any comments.

The Senator encouraged the crowd to "buddy up" and bring an extra person to caucus. Sen. Clinton also noted that the event site, East High School in Des Moines was where she started her presidential campaign.

The Clinton campaign announced that both Dorothy Rodham, and Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, would join the New York senator on the campaign trail in Iowa on Saturday.

2. Great!
I figured Chelsea would be showing up eventually - she came out on the trail for Kerry/Edwards in '04, so I couldn't imagine that she wouldn't come for her mom. But I didn't expect to see Mrs. Rodham (she's made very few public appearances over the years), so that's a really nice touch.

13. Thanks for posting Chelsea's pic, JD..
She is a beautiful girl with a wonderful set of parents.

Also, Mrs Rodham must be proud to see her daughter, Hillary attaining her destiny as perhaps the First Woman elected president of the US.

15. That's a good pic of Chelsea
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 01:48 PM by tammywammy
I was just talking about her to a co-worker the other day. About how hard it must have been growing up in the White House, especially when there are people that would stoop to attacking a child (i.e. McCain).

She's really grown up into a beautiful and smart woman. Her parents must be so proud.

edited to add: I totally stole it and posted it in the Chelsea's Iowa Debut thread, but I said I got it from you.

16. Why Would You Diss Someone For Campaigning With Their Eighty Something Mom And Daughter?
Shouldn't there be things even a partisan wouldn't say...

14. It was only a matter of time before she dragged them out.
Her internals must be falling.

Don't be surprised if Chelsea makes a commercial.

17. Do you feel the same when Elizabeth Edwards campaigns for John Edwards?
Or Michelle Obama for Barack Obama? Or how about Elizabeth Kucinich for Dennis?

Seriously, they're family of course they're going to help campaign for him. It would be more surprising if they didn't (like maybe Guiliani's family).

19. He Just Wanted To Get Off A Cheap Shot
The nerve of her to campaign with her eighty something year old mom and daughter... Maybe she should campaign as some alien who just landed on Earth...

21. Then it would be
Clinton doesn't want Student to vote, but she'll let Aliens vote!!!

Hillary can't get support from her own species, she has to import it from another galaxy!!

That's just a silly attack, of course her family would campaign for her...unlike Rudy.

22. Hey! I'm on your side.
What I was saying is you didn't see her mother or daughter on the campaign trail. Now, with the polls close, she's pulling out all the stops.

If I were a Hillary supporter, my question would be: "Why didn't you do this earlier?"
