The Seven Habits Of The Highly Successful Triangulator
1. Make sure whatever you say can be explained away.

2. Make sure you never take an actual position on anything.

3. Make sure whatever you say can be explained away.

4. Make sure you have surrogates to explain what you really meant.

5. Make sure you have surrogates to deny what you said.

6. Make sure you have a very famous and respected husband to explain what you said, and attack people who may, or may not have questioned you.

7. Make sure you have an awesome focus group.

4. When You're FORCED To Take A Position...
perhaps in a vote, then generate a statement that makes it sound like you're *really* on the opposite side of the way you vote, e.g., "I'm voting for war, but I'm against war".

Make sure you have surrogates who attack, attack, and attack with plenty of stinky red herrings and dirty strawmen in their arsenal.

18. In America..
... if you actually take a stand on the issues you might not get elected.

Since getting elected isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing, taking a stand is not a good plan.

Democrats, and Americans, get the government they deserve because THEY are not willing to understand the trade-offs that must be made, so politicians, rather than educate them, choose to act like there aren't any trade offs.

Oh well, a country, like a person, has to hit rock bottom before it can reform. We're heading there in a hurry.

FDR was in.

For a long time, I blamed legalization of booze (my dad used to make and sell bath tub gin to get by, and hundred of thousands of other Americaans did that too) but legalization did not take place until December.

However the case could be made that FDR didn't get sworn in until March, and he needed more time for his policies to take effect.

#8. Plant questions instead of answering them.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone
