Kennedy not the clear favorite for Senate seat, poll says

(CNN) — A new poll out Wednesday suggests there is no clear favorite among New Yorkers on who they think should replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate — and despite the buzz over Caroline Kennedy, the soon-to-be-vacant Senate seat is not necessarily hers for the taking.

According to a new survey from Siena College, 26 percent of New York voters and 30 percent of New York Democrats favor another potential pick with a famous last name — current New York attorney general Andrew Cuomo, the son of former governor Mario Cuomo.

Some 23 percent of New York voters — and 28 percent of Democrats — want Kennedy to get the post. Nearly one in five preferred one of the othe Democrats often mentioned for the post, and another one in five had no preference for their next U.S. Senator.

The top two potential choices also have nearly identical favorability ratings — 58-21 percent for Kennedy and 59-24 percent for Cuomo.

I don't know if he has said anything on the subject, but I did hear today in the news (my local channels are from NYC) that Patterson told the other people who are interested not to withdraw their names. So, this is not a done deal yet.

3. There are many who will be happy about this.

for many reasons.

Caroline Kennedy got the treatment from the media.

I think they were especially happy to oblige...as taking down a Democratic icon
with low negatives and who is squeaky clean is always something that they enjoy.
This is probably feeling better to them than Gore+Kerry+JJJ+Blago+Hillary+denting Obama,
cause they did ever believe that they'd be given the opportunity.

The Governor needs to shit or get off the pot.....before the media destroy both Kennedy and Cuomo.
A twofer would be like a Christmas present!

7. Not time to sh*t yet... the food hasn't been eaten!

It would be tacky beyond words for Patterson to say anything public about Clinton's replacement before the seat is vacated. If by some horrible fluke, Clinton isn't confirmed, it would be an enormous gaffe. And she can't step down until she's confirmed, and there's no knowing how long it will take for her to get through the Senate hearings.

on her nomination.

But she is a stranger to upstate. Two days out of NYC is not " a lot of time."

But I'm fine if she is appointed. Just pointing out the BS of that poll...being that she HAS NOT spent " a lot of time" there.

14. Polls have that 25-30% mystery percentile that keeps flipping through allot of samples...

that's really hard to factor sometimes. Its a similar percentile that still feels bush is doing OK, leaving the other 70% to be parsed out.

CK will have high #'s on a range of topics no doubt; but after what I was able to pick up from here today, her foray into up-state NY has hampered...peppered more to the point with prickly questions from a press core less star-struck with her personage. And her 'I have better things to do, people to see, and places to go than answer these questions' was on view, and by the end of the day it was already different,

I guess any one of us would, but she looked rather put-off with the exercise and was stepping on Paterson's process by using it as a shield he later suggested she not do by going-right-ahead and providing answers to questions she already knew, in a manner of speaking, "I wrote some books" "I'm a caring person for an individual's rights", etc...

I'm starting to feel for her more than ever. Soon, she won't be dealing with just the more talented, hand picked best on America's art scene or handing ballerina' bouquets of flowers. She'll be called upon to disrupt her long established MO of low-medium heart rate, foundational JFK peace, cultural & arts related activities by a world that is so different from the time of her father as to be radically so.

15. Well, she's doing it to herself.

She of all people should know what it takes to run for office, particularly in a hard state like NY. She never seemed to have the stomach for it and appeared to be more her mother's daughter than her dad's when it came to politics. So, she now wants to be a US senator? Well, let her go through the gauntlet like Hillary and every other politician had to go through. I don't feel bad for her at all.
