My wife thinks Warren was picked to deliver a message of tolerance.
Sort of a "I renounce my bigoted ways and you who follow me should too" kind of thing, only more eloquent because Obama's involved. And, metaphorically, standing behind him with his arms crossed and tapping his foot -- "You're going to say this, and back it up, because this is what your country needs and I am your President."

Anyhoo. 'Twould be cool.

1. Yup, 'cause nothing says "tolerance" like a rabidly anti-gay, misogynistic bigot

5. No, I think the OP was saying...
...that he would renounce his bigotry, which seems pretty far fetched.

10. unless he is struck by lightening on the stage....
and renounces his entire past life. Now, that would be entertaining! The SS and Obama might want to wear rubber-soled shoes, just in case...;)

11. Read it again
...and remember it's me. :hi:

I'm not saying it's going to go down that way. But it would be cool. Every public appearance has a purpose, and this one could be to clip Warren's wings.

4. Perhaps. That might be a bit too much to expect but...
maybe a slight tone of tolerance might be injected into the prayer. Hope so.

But, like wanting Ray Romano to be funny, it just won't happen. :-)

14. The Invocation will be by a bigot, the Benediction by a pro-same sex marriage black Rev.
Obama will be in the middle.

If I were looking at this metaphorically, and at the moment I am, I'd say it looks to me like Obama's speech could be seen as the force in the middle that signals a shift in the prevailing influence of religiosity.

16. Yeah, it would be a shame to see someone change their evil ways woudln't it?
Like your wife, I'm hoping Warren has actually begun to read the Bible he professes to believe and started to apply it to his life.

17. Heck, I don't even care if he means it.
A message of inclusion could be very powerful, coming from Warren, right now, as long as it's convincing.

23. He'll keep it bland.....nothing controversial... but certainly
won't renounce his entire life's beliefs nor denounce homophobia/bigotry... That is my prediction and given it will be short, very nonmemorable... Thank heavens for Dr. Lowery coming on with his benediction...

31. Don't know
I can tell you how I look at it. Salazar's good on Interior issues, bad on just about everything else. Getting him the hell out of the Senate is a good thing, and at Interior he'll help keep CO on the map, politically speaking. Grijalva is great, but still in AZ. And he's doing better things as the chair of his subcommittee than Salazar is in the Senate. :D
