5. Did he invite Ahmedinejad to speak to congress? Willful ignorance
of the false analogy is no longer an excuse.

6. It's false because Obama is not sitting down with Warren for a dialogue
i.e., for a specific, pragmatic purpose.

He's giving him a dignitary role in an event that is supposed to represent the future of this country. He is putting him forward as a positive example and a representation of his leadership.

That is quite different from sitting down with a foreign leader for diplomatic reasons, which says nothing in itself about what the foreign leader represents.

16. Ahmadinejad said many hateful things about Israel and the United States
the same arguments made against Obama for saying he would sit down with Iran are now being made against Obama for allowing Warren to do the invocation.

3. He isn't sitting down with Warren. He's *honoring* Warren.
I think that is the key difference.

12. I think its the other way around
Warren shouldn't be speaking, but the speaker is honoring the inaugurated president, not the other way around.

8. Up next
Obama reaches under the grave to Stalin. It could work. I bet he could be reformed posthumously. (YES this is the first time I've ever used that word on DU) And if he tried it the new DU would just love him more.

17. So where is Ahmadinejad's spot on the inaugural speaking role?
I have to admit, I put Ahmadinejad and Warren on equal footing as far as morality is concerned.

Obama is not talking to Rick Warren. He is giving him a big platform at inauguration.
To my knowledge Obama never suggested that AhmadiNejad will be speaking at his inauguration.

24. I have absolutely no problem with Obama talking to Warren
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 11:29 PM by LeftCoast
This is not about him talking to a bigot. This about giving a person who led the charge to destroy my marriage one of the most prominent spots in the inauguration.

This was NOT the change I voted for.
