So perhaps Warren is a step up?

3. I remember a ton of outrage over McClurkin
and very little over Obama's participation in the "Faith and Values Forum" at Saddleback church.

8. Obama's "God has to be in the mix" comment sparked outrage
At least on a gay forum I post on, I wasn't hanging out here at the time. But Obama's comment that he supports civil unions, but not gay marriage because "God has to be in the mix" pissed a lot of people off. The implication was God isn't in the mix of gay marriages because homosexuality is a sin.

12. I eat shellfish and wear poly-cotton blends
I'm going to hell according to the same biblical passages that bigots rely upon. It doesn't bother me.

down at the lobster festival telling me that "Meat is Murder" (Thou shall not Kill)

I'm a "meat is murder" type myself, not that I get in anyone's face about since it does no good.

18. Some people dress like lobsters protesting meat
Others stand outside troop funerals with disgusting signs saying "God Hates Fags", there's still crazy intolerance on both sides of the political spectrum. I'm not going to have a hissy-fit if Obama has a vegetarian speak at his inauguration even though they liken my lifestyle to the holocaust.

22. I don't pay attention to the outrageous declarations
of PETA members, because they are clearly imbalanced in their apocalyptic declarations. You shouldn't give Rick Warren any more credence than that either.

I'd be glad to ignore Rick Warren. Obama is shoving him in my face.

25. Dear, Warren campaigned and raised money to strip people of their civil rights in California
Ignoring him won't make his political influence go away. Saying "just ignore him" is as ridiculous and condescending as trying to draw a parallel between being a meat-eater and the discrimination gay people face.

32. Hint: PETA is powerless
Warren's ideas are the law of the land, his movement is powerful and well-funded, and followers of his values actively oppress, even murder, others.

When that description fits PETA, I'll be equally concerned about them.

30. No they didn't
And a bombastic televangelist didn't take away yours, the electorate did. And protesting Warren won't get them back. Convincing the electorate that they made a mistake will.

I'm honestly shocked, and I've read some nutty ass things on this board.

You truly are amazing.

Your mother would be proud of you, that is, if you weren't getting cheeto stains on her laptop, furiously typing away from her basement.

23. Warren's actions pushing Proposition 8 in California happened after the forum.
On election day, gay people had a right taken away from them that they had previously had in California. We also experienced more loss of rights in Florida (gay marriage and civil unions made unconstitutional), Arizona, and Arkansas. Rick Warren was very vocal, very much out in front promoting these things.

Warren has also been on TV a lot recently comparing gay marriage to incest and bestiality. He's made himself the nation's major spokesperson for "gays are abominations."

That's why people are upset that he was chosen to give the prayer at our Democratic president's inauguration. It's a signal that he may be joining Obama's inner circle. Obama's not naive. He knows what Warren has done and he knows how people will react.

19. I think there's a good chance he might pass some legislation
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act and gays in the military have a wide majority of support. Not much political risk in championing long-overdue legislation the public agrees with.

What I'd rather is he not give a prominent anti-gay activist an honored place at his Inaugural. It's not an either/or situation, he could actually manage to not disrespect gay people and help us get the equal rights we deserve at the same time. I'll bet he can walk and chew gum at the same time too, and do all sorts of feats of multi-tasking.

26. Oddly enough I'd respect him more if he chose McJerkin' - so I'd say this is a step down
Edited on Sat Dec-20-08 10:15 PM by kenny blankenship
but he wouldn't dare do that because A) McJerkin' is black, and B) McJerkin' is G-A-Y

(To my knowledge, I don't know any straight person who believes that "ex-gays" exist, and I am absolutely sure I don't know any gay people who believe that "ex-gays" exist. They belong in the same category as cockatrices and manticores.)

Oh sure Donnie is straight like a ray of light from Heaven when he's singing and testifying, but you can bet he's still gay when he's McJerkin' it.
