If we are supposed to focus on the good parts of Warren's message we owe the same courtesy to. . .
. . .Jeremiah Wright.

Side by side I guarantee you that Jeremiah Wright is 100 times a better man than Rick Warren.

I Never felt Wright's messages were anything but right on. He was honest about how he was feeling.

3. I know I am a non church goer who would gladly attend services in Wright's church
But no way in hell would I go to Warren's church.

4. Ah, But The US Media Has Decided That Warrens Form Of Racism, Bigotry And Discrimination
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 11:25 AM by lostnotforgotten
Are blessed of jesus and the white evangelicals that rule the right and most of this country.

Can't have a black man telling it like it is.

What the media is telling us is ...

"Son, what we have here is a failure to communicate!"

7. It's not the media that upsets me - it's Obama going along with it.

Of some supposed proper order of the universe, the world, and the US.

9. Are you sure? I don't want to replay the primaries but a lot DUers had problems with Wright. . .
. . .or were their issues just political in nature?

20. If you think that gay DUers had problems with Wright, I'd be interested to see the links.
I'm a lesbian who defended Wright and Obama tooth and nail during the primaries.

I certainly don't understand why the homophobic male supremacist is better.

. . .but I don't understand why he is sticking with him after taking the heat.

15. I figure it's calculated. The Left may forgive him eventually
but should he "disinvite" Warren it would loose the hounds of the holy.

shame that message is lost on so many of his supposed supporters.

14. No argument there.
The only beef I ever had with Wright is that he used his office to campaign.

I don't want to see campaigning from the pulpit, or from religious leaders. I like my "separation" cleaner than that.

As far as his non-campaign-related messages, I didn't have a problem with them, or with him, for getting them out.

Personally, as I said in a couple of other threads, I'd rather have seen Thich Nhat Hanh do the invocation; this guy:

"God is Black.
But God is not only Black.
God is also White,
God is also a Flower.
So when a lesbian thinks of
her relationship with God,
if she practices deeply,
she can find out that
God is also Lesbian.
And God is Gay, too.
God is no less.
God is Lesbian,
and also Gay,
Black, White,
a Chrysanthemum.
And when you
discriminate against
Black or White
or Flower or Lesbian,
you discriminate
against God,
which is the basic
Goodness in you."

If I had to have a prominent protestant minister, though, I'd prefer Wright over Warren any day of the year.

17. There are no good parts to Warren's message. He is an anti-Semite, a misogynist, and a homophobe
There is nothing harmless about a man that teaches that LGBTs need to be cured of the "sickness," or that women must submit to male authority in all facets of life.

As to Warren's much ballyhooed work on AIDS, the truth is that Warren is opposed to AIDS prevention. Warren opposes the distribution of condoms in Africa and the teaching of safe sexual practices. Instead, Warren advocates "Abstinence-Only" programs.

Warren also invests in companies that help cause the poverty and oppression in the Third World.

18. People like Warren use "good parts" as a shield for their hate.
It's what so insidious about people like him. They deliberately cultivated ties to charities, good acts, etc. so when they get called on their real purposes they can point to something and say "Hey, look at the good we are doing here." It's an act.

Wright is not an act. There is simply no comparison.

As a gay person, I recognize the importance of defending human rights. I wish that everyone else saw that.

21. Absolutely. Maybe the pundits and Obama might want to revisit
the good things that Rev. Wright has been a part of and put them front and center as well. Because the worst Rev. Wright has done is no where near the sins of Rick Warren.

He's supposed wrongs revolve around pointing out the painful truths about America's injustices, not depriving his fellow citizens of their rights.

The irony is amazing. I wonder if Obama ever thinks about this.
