The state of California has gone back and forth on the issue of overlays and splits. The 310 area code in the Los Angeles area has been congested for some time. A proposal was made to overlay, then the decision was made to split (but with very little notice from the "trigger date" until the split actually took effect), and now the decision has been made to overlay, although that decision is being reconsidered. The current plan is for the overlay to take effect on 2006-07-26.

You like SACRAMENTO?! I lived there for a year and couldn't wait to get back to San Diego. Terrible urban planning in Sacramento and I found it weird how so much of it was either ghettofied or rich suburbs.

The midtown area was kind of nice as was old town Sac but neither of those are very big areas. The biggest selling point for Sacramento seemed to be that you could buy a house for $200k-$250k.

I live in 909 area code, yes it stinks... too many Republicans. I dare to say, the 909 area code is even more Republican than your average Texas city.

The best is a split between 310 and 323, I'd say. You got Santa Monica, Venice, and West Hollywood.

Agreed wholeheartedly on #2 (Rolls-Royce thing). Whenever I come back after a long trip elsewhere, all these luxury cars overwhelm me. Elsewhere in the country, the most expensive car a progressive will ever drive is a Toyota Prius or a Honda Civic Hybrid. In SoCal, you'll see plenty of progressives in BMWs. I'm leasing a 3-series myself just to keep up.
