Dix praised the tax cuts put in place by President George W. Bush.
"Unless Congress and President Bush act to make them permanent, your taxes will go up again," Dix said. "As your Congressman I will let you know that I will vote to make these tax cuts permanent."
He shared a humorous conversation between his daughter, Elizabeth, 4, and son Will, 5. Elizabeth caught part of a discussion about taxes and wondered what they were. Dix said Will responded with tears that he and his dad had talked about it. They needed that money they spent on taxes to buy toys.
Dix also emphasized national security issues, particularly tightening America's borders."We can be proud that four years have passed without another attack on our soil," Dix said. "For that reason, I am standing with President Bush on his decision to take the war to the terrorists. If our borders are not secure, if we fear terrorists in our streets, then we as Americans are not truly free."
Dix pledged to work on health care issues. He said the nation needs to find a way to curb health care costs, and limit the role of health maintenance organizations in making medical decisions.
Dix cited his approval ratings from the Iowa Right to Life Committee, National Rifle Association and National Federation of Independent Businesses.
