4. In all football (college and pros) conference games are always closer.
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 12:31 AM by TroubleMan
Teams in the same conference know each other too well, so the games are usually closer than they should be. In your other thread you thought Florida was weak because they didn't blow out other SEC teams. SEC conference games between good teams are almost always close and are rarely blowouts. Also, the SEC top teams are almost always defensive powerhouses, with offense taking a back seat. This also makes the games closer.

The same thing happened in 1992 with Alabama, and 1998 with Tennessee. Alabama barely squeaked by two or three SEC opponents, and Tennessee had a lot of close games, and in that game with Arkansas they just flat out got lucky. Both Miami and FSU were big favorites at the time. Alabama trounced Miami, and Tennesse beat FSU in a close game.

Those SEC games that Florida played were all tough games, and as long as they win them, you can't knock them down in your ratings by looking at how they won them or by how much. Also, defense wins championships, and Florida's defense coming in was one of the best. The big question is which Florida offense (i.e. which Chris Leak) would show up. I thought Florida was going to win in a close game, and that they dominated so thoroughly is very surprising - OSU was a very good team.

5. I totally agree
The SEC always devours its own. The teams within the conference study each other religiously and there are always close games. Heck, every team in the SEC seems to consider all of the other teams to be "bitter rivals."

Squeaking by a SEC team is not a bad thing if you are in the SEC.

I was hoping for a Florida blowout because 1) I always go for the SEC team first and 2) I was sick of the Ohio State hype.

Go Gators!!

6. And if you're in the SEC,
even a 1 point win over your "bitter rival" is sweet indeed.

Congrats, Gators!

11. You know, I think you are on to something.
Look at what happened to USC this year. A loss to the Beavs on the road (YAY! GO BEAVS!), and a loss to bitter and twisted arch-rival UCLA. Nailbiter against U of Washington FFS.

Out of conference(SEC, Big 12, Big 10(11) game crushes.

Not that I like either team very much, but I don't want to see New England 4-peat and win another Super Bowl.
