1. Yeah, we have some great, fearless Dems here.

It comes from having to confront a hostile media and having to fight for your ideals in a very tough, raucous and intellectually challenging environment. The Bay State does not produce wimps. It produces people who know how to fight, when needed and when to press an issue and not give up, just because you are challenged. Yeah us

The White House said Monday it welcomes the debate over its Iraq policies.

"I think it's important to get congressional support," White House spokesman Tony Snow told reporters.

Veteran GOP political analyst Todd Domke said the all-Democratic Bay State delegation, one of the most liberal in the nation, appears to be flexing its muscles in the new Democratic-controlled Congress, seeking to emerge as leaders in their party's anti-war push.

"They feel emboldened by the off-year elections," said Domke. "They're looking to lead the anti-war movement in Congress ... For some of the older liberals in the delegation, it's reminiscent of the Vietnam War era. It's deja vu to them."

BTW, if you noticed, one responder to that thread from Massachusetts didn't stop to self-congratulate the delegation for doing this. Hell no. He went after a Rep who isn't hard enough on the Pres and this war and threatened to occupy his office unless he too showed some resolve and went out after this issue. This is how Massachusetts is. Yeah, we have some great people. Now, why aren't they all great all the time? We can do better here people. Let's get to it. Such is Massachusetts.

2. I know you know how lucky you are to live in an 'intellectually

challenging environment'. Therein lies a big difference from where I live vs. where you live. And compare my senators (KBH/Cornyn) to yours; startling differences.

And some incredibly courageous people like Molly Ivins. I have every faith that Texas will produce, as it has in the past, some great Dems who will challenge the country on the national scene.

Massachusetts is a peculiar place in a lot of ways. The recent Inauguration of Deval Patrick as Governor was really a wonderful event. Deval asked the good people in Massachusetts to stop for just a second and consider it's history and what impact it has had on the nation. He brought up the example of John Quincy Adams and his sterling and very courageous defense of the captured Africans who were taken against their will onto the La Amistead ship back in the 1830's. The new Governor asked the people of Mass to pause for just a second in their endless quest to make things better and just look at their heritage and what they have contributed to the country. It really was an amazing moment.

(I did not write about this last week, even though that Inauguration made me cry. It was incredibly moving and was a truly profound moment of change. I didn't write about it here because, you know, it's too Mass-specific and I didn't want to, you know, bore people with Mass stuff. Sigh! I think Mass people expect great things from their Reps in Congress. After all, this is what Massachusetts does. If it is expected, then can it be extraordinary? Sigh! Besides, there is always another fight and it is not humble to rest on one's laurels. )
